Hang on a minute, didn't the moties discover interstellar travel? As I recal they called it the "Crazy Eddie" drive and later discarded it because none ever returned from the warm welcomr that was at the end of the jump point.
By the way, have you read the sequel yet? The Mote in Murchenson's eye, it takes a lot longer to get of the ground but this time the moties are even more fantastic.........
