: I can't tell you how many times I've heard Mormons fall into this illogical trap. I've heard several latter admit that they didn't bother to read her book on Jefferson. They just heard what Nibley said about it. (Nibley didn't read it either--just reviews of it.)
: Although discussing a different person and philosophy, does this quote from Shermer make any sense to you?
: "Criticism of the founder or followers of a philosophy does not, by itself, constitute a negation of any part of the philosophy... Criticism of part of a philosophy does not gainsay the whole."
: Shermer also states, "They exploit errors made by scholars who are making opposing arguments, implying that because a few of their opponents' conclusions were wrong, all of their opponents' conclusions must be wrong."
: Since you discount Brodie before ever reading her, can you perhaps recommend an objective biography on Joseph Smith for us all?
Apparently you didn't read what I said. I have read Brodie. As far as a bio of Joseph Smith, I haven't the foggiest. I have never read anything on the man.
