You're an active Mormon? I think by definition (by having mentally left the Church) you are an inactive Mormon. Simply being "on the books" doesn't make you active. It is further doubtful that your "activity" would be persist if those views on Scripture were made known to the Bishop.

The church doesn't differentiate between belief and non-belief - only between active and inactive. I attend all my meetings consistently, I participate when asked, I hold a calling, I teach the HP quorum on occasion, I was the gospel doctrine teacher during 1992-1996 - and I don't believe any of the fundamental doctrines of the church. As to your supposition that the Bishop would take action if my views were known - wrong. The last two bishops have known, and they don't care as long as I'm not actively leading the faithful astray.

Why, then, do I attend? The short answer is that I'm married to a true believer. The long answer is somewhat more complex, but I don't have time to go into that right now.

There are others like me in my ward, and throughout the church. I am considered a liberal, "Liahona" Mormon - and in many respects, I am - just way more "liberal" than most know. :)
