A reasonable cop-out

This may sound like a cop-out but could this intermediate form even be found? There is little to no chance of it ever fossilizing. What if it was completely wiped out by its descendant(s) through natural selection?

Let's pretend for a moment that dinosaurs (or some other replicating species or organism) were made up of materials that didn't fossilize except under ideal conditions. Would we now know that dinosaurs (or the other replicators) ever existed without the fossil evidence?

With a simple cell structure fossilization is near impossible. Without *any* cell structure is fossilization even possible?
