Anyone think "CULT" when they went through the Mormon temple the first time?

turnonthelights Sep 2012

I remember looking at my parents dressed in those strange outfits and thinking "what the hell is this!" My dad looked embarrassed when I looked at him like he knew it was strange and felt bad for putting me through it. My mother fell asleep throughout most of it. I remember telling my mom that the videos were horribly acted and why couldn't they have at least hired better actors. The naked touching and "oh god hear the words of my mouth" chants were creepy and cultish.

JWs at my door remind me that church hurts

Nightingale Sep. 2012

Early Saturday morning door knocks are particularly unwelcome at my house as I'm usually rushing to be somewhere, and usually late with it. It is never somebody I want to talk to at that time, not even if it's little girls wanting my bottles for their baseball team. Magnify to the nth degree the extent of unwelcomeness I feel towards religious callers.

Lesson learned and the wheels keep turning...

Dear Dr. RFM:
On saying no:

Written by Cathy Walker-Gilman to Mrs. Romney - WOMEN

ChrisDeanna Sep 2012

Dear Mrs. Romney:

I work very hard in my daily life to assume the best about people. So the only thing I am going to assume about you is that you are probably a pretty nice person with a good heart. I like to make this global assumption without the taint of the opinions of others.

And I would appreciate it if you would stop assuming things about me.

Mountain Meadows Massacre Anniversary Reflections on Visiting the Site of the Covered-Up Mormon Cult Murders of 120 American Immigrants . . .

steve benson Sep. 11 2012

Below are some lingering thoughts and images of my visit a few years ago to the site of the Mountain Meadows Massacre:

The highway signs indicating one's approach to the Mountain Meadows Massacre site are innocuous and give absolutely no hint of the horrible atrocity that occurred there. The roadside signs, at both the one mile and half-mile mark on opposite sides of the highway, simply say, "Mountain Meadows."

Feeling alot of anger towards my parents for not seeing through the scam of Mormonism!

turnonthelights sep 2012

At 25 I really started having serious doubts and started to regret my temple marriage to my tbm husband. By 30 I knew it was and always had been nothing more than a scam for suckers. I was grateful that I had been intuitive enough to see through it all. But what about my parents? Why hadn't they seen the warning signs years earlier? My dad is a lawyer and smarter than I am but here he is blinded for years by the lies. He at least should have been smart enough to have caught on by now.

Tom Monson's "Nasty" Coke Habit: Revealing Info from Inside His Family & from Those Who Work for Him (Plus, the Mormon Church's Long-Standing Anti-Coke "Revelation," Now Repealed)

The Mormon Church has--yet again--performed a complete 180: This time on its now-defunct denunciation of consuming caffeinated sodas.

Is better to leave Mormonism cold turkey or gradually?

MntZerin Aug 2012

I’m currently a recommend holding active member of the church. I was born and raised in the church and did all the things I was suppose to do. I've been blessed with a lovely wife and a young family. All my extended family, in-laws, and friends are recommend holding members.

Why is it so hard to "deprogram", trying to understand.

notsurewhattothink Aug 2012

Hi there,

I have to admit, I am having a really hard time "breaking" commandments which I know are not true, but were still a part of my life for so long.

Mormon Beliefs that did the most damage to me.

exdman Aug 2012

Sexual thoughts are unclean thoughts--I felt so tortured as an 11 year old for not being able to get thoughts of nude girls out of my mind, that I used to wish that a car would lose control and run me over so that I could die and it wouldn't be suicide or murder.

Inconvenient Truths Left Out of Sermons for the Sheep: Pratt was Killed by the Husband of a Woman that Pratt Had Run Off With (which may have triggered the Mt. Meadow Massacre)--

Anyone here know the REAL reason Apostle Pratt was killed? . "The 'assailant' was none other than the HUSBAND of a woman that Parley P. Pratt seduced into being his NINTH polygamous wife. . . .

Unconfirmed Reports Re Monson, Alzheimer's and Internal High-Level Manuevering

Word has come to me from an individual and long-time contact (identity protected here) who appears to be giving some degree of credence to rumors that Thomas S. Monson may be suffering from Alzheimer's' disease.

Why can't Mormon's talk about things other than Mormon

sam Aug 2012

For the past month, I have focused on TBM's [Mormons] and their talk when I am in their company. My goal was to try and have a talk (short or long) without bringing up Mormon @#$;. So far, I have not been successful. In every case (so far), the TBM has brought in something that is a Mormon thing.

Ward Crazies - Share your stories here pt1

roxy Aug 2012

OK so I was born and raised in Europe, I don't live there any longer, but the church isn't huge over there. Missions must be very hard and the pickings are slim. The only people in my home ward ever seemed to get baptized were the vulnerable, and the slightly unhinged/mentally ill people. This made for some hilarious Testimonkey meetings

Not a ward story, but, when my father in law came to visit with his new wife, (that doesn't know how to shut-up), we were talking about the temple and she went on to tell us how she loved to go there because she was best friends with Emma Smith (in the pre-existence) and Emma would come to her in the temple

It really IS okay to say 'no' to Bishops and other church leaders

JoD3:360 Aug 2012

It took me a long time to get up the guts to say NO when commanded to visit or to meet. Since childhood I was told that the Bishop was the father of the ward and Jesus' personal servant. To disobey the Bishop is to offend Christ Himself, to lie to the bishop is to lie to the Lord.

Stopped wearing garments HELP!

SandyGirl Aug 2012

Make a long story short. My husband is a life long member and so are his parents. I'm a convert ( 2 years). I wanted to go to the temple but no one told me I'd have to wear ugly depressing clothes [after being 'endowed']. Garments make me sad and depressed and i feel oppressed.
