I saw this a while back - what kind of person decides to spend his professional career this way? I'd be suspicious of the director, even back when I was LDS. I wouldn't be surprised if they find this guy on the news someday in a Catholic Priest sort of situation.

They have all kinds of weird programs for all kinds of people (although the Sons are by far the weirdest and most inappropriate). All of the tout the reality of Satan and his power. I suppose some of the groups and what they do would be helpful to some people but the obsession with Satan and the overwhelming Mormon brainwashing is off-putting.
As is reading the bios of the counselors. But I can see how they would reassure the hugely Mormon population of Davis County.

I'm kind of reluctant to admit this, but back in 2012 my wife actually requested i see the head guy associated with that group. I met with him several times to help my "problem" with porn and masturbation.
I, being a full fledged TBM at the time, bought into it hook line and sinker. He does a really good job at playing with your emotions (gee nothing new there right?) to convince you that your addiction to porn is satan's way of attacking your family. The idea is that if you fight the addiction with the same intensity and volition as you would a physical threat to your wife and family that you'll be able to defeat it.
The crazy thing is it worked for me, at least for a fair while. I was porn free for several months. But obviously looking back i can see that i wasn't being "attacked" any more so than a horny bunny rabbit is being attacked by Satan.
No it's not a scam, they actually believe this stuff. He believes he prayed and received an answer that the BoM is really a modern manual to fight porn.

This was my first thought. Why the heck should a mother of an ADULT think they have the right to be 'involved' in this? So unbelievably messed up.

I feel so incredibly sorry for the poor boys that get enrolled in this program. My heart just aches for them and how they will spend years trying to work out the damage that is being done to them right now.
They will spend years feeling like degenerates, feeling inferior, feeling like freaks for thinking and doing the same God damn things that almost every teenage boy does. It will take them years before they finally realize that everyone that they have listened to their entire lives are liars and hypocrites and pharisees.

I love how the name of the man who directs it is "Maurice". I totally thought that was a woman at first. Surely he struggled with his manliness and was a "naughty" wanker/ porn watcher in his youth. Then he somehow developed his "healthy fear of Satan" and started this scam to get TBM's money. Wow--how sad that people are really falling for this.

I poked around a bit and saw a statement--pretty sure it was on the Sons of Helaman program--that many participants receive assistance through fast offerings.
I wonder how many members would continue to contribute knowing their starvation money was being used to keep the boys in the ward from looking at dirty pictures and masturbating. I should think a lot of TBMs would agree that's a pretty dumb charity.
