I don't recall anyone mentioning the Albuquerque temple. What a frigid monstrosity. Reminds me of Fort Knox.

Amid the plethora of fugly temples the few that come close to beautiful stand out.

SLC is a derivitave style but not bad.

The other three 19th century Utah houses of the Lard stand out with their Victorian exuberence.

Then there's the one near and dear to me own heart here in Mesa. Neo-classical Greek but not gaudy. And unique among all others for lack of a goddamm steele of any kind. Alas, poor Moroni is completely left out of the picture.

Plus, it's the only one I've ever been inside and that was repeatedly.

Methinks a beautiful temple thread would be a rather short thread.

Just before I found my way out of the church for good I worked on the painting crew inside the Timpanogos temple while they were constructing it. I couldn't believe how much money they spent on it. Sickening.

In my career as a painting contractor I had the privilege of working on various chapel remodeling projects around Mesa. My hired help had to swear an oath to forswear swearing inside the chapel. I told them if they smacked their thumb with a hammer to quickly duck outside before taking the Lard's name in vain.

I did several roofs for chapels in the Payson/Spanish Fork area. The temple was the only church job I did as a painter. I was still a Mo, born and raised right there in UT Valley, so I didn't need to be told by my boss. We did have a short conversation as a crew before going in there about language and general behavior. We were a small crew so it wasn't too difficult. One experienced guy wasn't allowed in because we couldn't trust him to leave behind his liquor filled thermos.

Hah, that just triggered another Mormory moment....

It was in 89 or so , the year I got rooked into painting the Easter Pageant stage.

Former TBM Larry Braithwaite was a builder who had two tbm painting contractors plus me, but I just had the Mormon name. As professional courtesy I agreed to help him that year when he was running the Pageant prep.

The three of us backed out vans up to the backstage and proceeded to pump a 100+ gallons of burnt-beige paint all over the set. A gruesome sight, three rival behooded businessmen working like 3 busy Nephites.

The funniest part besides me sprayin for Jesus was that my jackmo nephew and his pal were the only grunts that would help me on a freebie.

I had to bribe them with a bucket of iced beer for their discreet enjoyment whilst feeding paint to 3 voracious spray rigs.



Oh if I only had some video of that day!

Perhaps the expenses are boondoggles for friends of the leaders, the same way nations and corporations are run.

What cracks me up is the pictures of the temples are all close up so they look so big and impressive. I googled "Memphis LDS Temple" and just laughed. Some of the pictures are even photoshopped to look like its on some big landscaped piece of property off by itself.

I will go over one of these days and get some pictures from across the street. And some from the stake center parking lot. You'll laugh when you compare them to the official church photos. I'll also get some pics of other churches on the same street. You'll see why people can drive past the temple every day and not even notice it.

Remember when a gunman went into the DC temple and a SWAT team went after him? Oh the hub bub about whether it would have to be re-dedicated because gentiles had defiled it? After much hand wringing it was decided it wouldn't be necessary...So much so called self-importance about a building!

Right you are too about their silly entry rules.

Had I been wearing the correct underwear back then, who knows, I could have bid on some juicy conracts on the 'inside', less tithing and perchance a little bribery of course.

I have to say, the inside of the Denver temple is hideous.

This second link is to the stupa in Colorado, where I live. A stupa is like a small temple, a place of honor where an elaborate shrine is located. Buddhists know how to make a building look like a place of worship, not a utilitarian ugly building. BTW - does one architect design firm do all ward and stake buildings? They all look alike which is BORING and non-religious.

I rather admired the Ba'hai temple whilst on a pilgrimage back in '81 to of all places . . . Haifa, Israel.

That's because Mormons are trying to nail a piece of real estate as a tax deduction where "services" are conducted.

They aren't interested in creating a sacred space, rather creating a superstitious place, which is entirely different.

Maybe they can rededicate that spoiled temple the gunman entered. Or they could just smoke them some sage and wave it around to get the evil cooties out.
