False Pretenses

Just curious if anyone out there ever did anything because someone in the church told them something completely bogus.

For example, you went on a mission because a girl told you she couldn't be with you or marry you (or love you) unless you went, and then after you came back still dropped you? This actual happened to my brother, and he eventual left the church.

Or someone (male or female) told you that they couldn't marry you (or love you) unless you got baptised and/or took them to the temple, and then the marriage didn't last? This happened to a someone I know.
