I just watched "Gentleman Broncos." It's written and directed by Jared Hess, who also made "Napoleon Dynamite" and is Mormon.

There's a scene where a science fiction writer (played by Jemaine Clement) explains how he creates interesting names by taking an ordinary name and sticking a suffix on the end.

I couldn't find the scene on YouTube, but you can get the gist from the trailer.

This same gimmick is used in the Book of Mormon. Ammon becomes Ammonihah, Moroni becomes Moronihah, etc.

On the DVD commentary, Jared Hess says he got the idea for the joke from a friend he went to BYU Film School with. His friend would make science fiction and fantasy movies with all kinds of interesting names.
