While that's nice to see, I'm appalled at how little national coverage this is getting.

My Google News page as a story on Casey Anthony as US News, for crying out loud. There isn't a mention of Jeffs.

This doesn't surprise me in the least!

You've got a mouthpiece to god, and complete and utter sexual dominion over subjegated little girls.

As much as they want to pretend that they have super high morals - this is the reality of the situation.

He controls the sexuality in ways that most people can only see staged on the internet in pornography that the FLDS would say that they abhore.

Exactly RJ, only they don't have to worry about trimming if they stick to child porn.

Utter revulsion. One thing for sure, Texas is not Utah and they are not going to tolerate this mumbo-jumbo religious bullshit excuse for perversion

Final statements are to happen soon and then it's to the jury.

I wonder if the seats in that Texas courtroom come with barf bags. The whole thing makes me wanna puke.

I just heard on truTV that in his closing "remarks," Jeffs gave EACH juror a glaring stink eye.

To their credit, each juror stared right back at him.

I'm sure that Jeffs has relied on his glare to make his congregation cower in his presence. I'm sure his fellow cons in prison have got a cure for his superiority complex.

This is from the comments below the Daily Beast article:

"I thought I heard progressives say the state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation. That is certainly the rationale we hear for gay marriage. This young girl wanted to marry Warren Jeffs and her parents gave their consent to the marriage. Why is the state of Texas getting involved in a family affair?"

If a father wanted to molest his own children in the master bedroom of his home, and his wife consented, would THAT be okay?

If people want to chop babies to pieces in their bedroom, THAT's okay, too?

A person under 18 is not legally capable of entering into a contract, so that reasoning is actually full of shit.

Yes, that commenter is completely full of $h*t. That's why I copied the comment and posted it here. It amply demonstrates just how far gone some people are.

What's lacking is knowledge and perspective about the stages of life in human beings about the human brain and it's incomplete development in the teen years; about the incapacity of 12-15 year old girls to exercise good judgement and to take future consequences into consideration.

An entire of colony of adults who think like that commenter is being master-minded by a group of men who are even worse.

The true horror always comes home to me when I see people defending Warren Jeffs.

By no means am I suprised, however, at the depravity of his cult. Didn't the wives protest the taking of their children right after the raid and claim there was jo abuse going on?

Some of the women from the polygamist colony in Canada have testified in court that they finally worked up the courage (and the intricate planning) needed to leave when they felt their children were threatened, especially their daughters.

Carolyn Jessop left, in part, in an effort to save her children.
http://www.rickross.com/reference/polygamy/polygamy403.html

Excerpts from a story dated May, 1998:

"Out of this conspiracy of silence has emerged a group of six women willing to speak about polygamy and tackle its complicated issues openly and safely. Part of what they plan is the formation of a support group for women who have left polygamy or are in the process of leaving. It is something they all wish they would have been available during their own perilous journeys out.

"The women offer diverse perspectives from having grown up in polygamy or as former polygamous wives. They have come together with that common thread, while still in the process of re-constructing their lives. Because they bring intricate experiences and sometimes conflicting opinions on polygamist issues, they have chosen to name their organization Tapestry Of Polygamy (TOP).

TO"P is being formed with support from another women's organization, Justice and Economic Dignity and Independence For Women (JEDI). JEDI is an activist organization made up of primarily low-income women who strive to improve the lives of women and include them in public policy debate. It has been one of the most effective and successful activist organizations in the state and seems a fitting and wise springboard for TOP.

"Tamara Baggett, JEDI executive director, is glad to see the formation of TOP. "This is long overdue," she says. "Many polygamous women call JEDI who are having difficulty leaving and the problems that presents.

"Because of the "blood atonement" beliefs held by many of the polygamist groups, women who dare leave are forced to live in hiding for fear of death. They are without any family support and lose their community as well. They usually have little or no education, having been mostly home-schooled, and have no job skills or resources. When women leave with their children, these factors are doubly difficult."

Yes, mothers should protect their daughters, but they are often prevented from doing so.

Smith would never have had his twelve year old spiritual "wife" trim her pubic hair...he wouldn't have taken time for that. Itnojc, amen.
