...and he said he hopes no conservatives would not consider voting for him simply because of his religion, etc. Now this radio host is quite proud of his judaism, and it reminded me of of one of the real ironies of mormonism: if anyone believes that Joseph Smith actually had and translated the plates not that many years ago, there is no way they would NOT join the church, because it's a simple historical fact right there in the book that Jesus Christ came to America. Anyone who defends mormons has to subconsciously realize it's BS, otherwise it's a no-brainer that the church is true, and they can't explain why they wouldn't leave their own belief system and "follow the prophet"; cog-dis even for non-mo's! (Maybe it's the whole 10% thing)

Does that make any sense?

Yes, and it's a nice point. "If you do not think the LDS church is bull, then why aren't you in it?" If you think it is possible that Joe's tall tale is true, then you owe it to yourself to meet with the missionaries and investigate the church thoroughly."

Isn't this a big part of the cynicism of public life in America today? Everyone pretends to tolerate people and their beliefs that they know are complete balderdash. "Smile and wave and act like you take seriously the nice man over there who believes in the flying spaghetti monster and tell everyone to consider voting for him for President. B/c you know, we need crazy people in high office."
