In a discussion about the priesthood ban, an apologist said this:

"Problem with your judgment here is that I once left the Church primarily over this issue, and then came back when I learned the whole and actual truth.

"It is YOU who have an ignorance bias.... If it actually was racist, I wouldn't have came [sic] back to the Church."

That is quite possibly the stupidest statement I have ever read on any message board.

Sounds like a demeaning way to hide the fact that he doesn't want to share what the "whole and actual truth" is. It's probably something that is felt and not reasoned.

Or is that came-backs?

What is this person saying? Once a dumba**, always a dumba**?

Kindly speak for yourself, dumba**!

Sheesh!

Timothy

In other words "because I came back it makes the priesthood ban all good"

That’s a logical fallacy. The two have NOTHING to do with each other and his return does not remove the problem.

It is more than obvious where the ignorant bias lies.

Mormons for some reason think this type of incredibly arrogant argument should fly. Basically it is "I think it's good so it MUST be good."

Orson Pratt Card ... er... I mean Orson Scott Card said it similarly--the Church can't be a cult because, hey, he wouldn't be a member of a cult.

The usual version is basically "It must be true because I have this strong feeling that it's true."

In every case the incredible arrogance goes unnoticed by the speaker.
