There are a lot of reasons why I no longer believe in TSCC or want to participate in it, but this one really hits close to home.

Guilt over masturbation more or less robbed me of happiness during four of the most prime years of my life. Now I get so angry and embarrassed to think that I used to discuss this "problem" with other grown men who had no business knowing about it. I can't believe I gave 2 years of my life and 10% of my income to an organization that mentally f***ed me up like that.

My mission president was the same way. He actually gave the almost exact same talk in 1999 in Ecuador (Guayquil North Mission), his second month in the mission!!!!!!! The interviews were longer than normal that month, but I kept on doing it. I call it self love!

Ditto that. It would be instructive to set up an expiriment on this. I don't know if we could reliably tell if people were masturbating or not. So LDS, Inc. could try this.

Group 1: Have the same expectations regarding hours worked, study time etc. But make clear to that group that masturbation is allowed and ok, as long as it doesn't interfere with performance of other duties. You know, how it works in the real world.

Group 2: Keep doing this kind of guilt and shame nonsense.

I imagine the results for baptisms would be similar, perhaps even somewhat better for group 1.

However, group 1 would not be feeling the urge/guilt all day, so they could think about other things and would figure out the LDS Church is a fraud. So they might not stay long enough to ever know if the expiriment worked.

I'm not sure about that. I've never heard of anyone being disfellowshipped for masturbating. Missionaries aren't even sent home for doing it. Masturbation is kind of a weird sin in Mormonism. Its treated really, really seriously in talks and such, but everyone still does it (guys do, at least, IDK about the ladies). Plus, when someone actually does admit to doing it, its not really a big deal.

There are whacked out LDS leaders who do make it a big deal. hopefully they are rare.

So the mission prez blames their low baptism rate (2 per month) on missionaries masturbating. That's a new one.

My mission president asked me about masturbation on several occasions. He was convinced that masturbation had a direct correlation to missionary success.

It may have.

That extra 5 minutes per day is 5 minutes less spent knocking on doors.

add up 2.5 days per mission and multiply by 40000 young men and you have 100,000 wasted days

cut back the masturbatory sessions to once per week and the number of wasted days drops dramatically.

I had a missionary companion who got caught masturbating by his previous companion.

For some idiotic reason the mission president who was told about this decided to keep the guy in the same zone and give him to me as a companion (probably partly because I had confessed to the mission president that I had masturbated so he figured I would be understanding.)

Anyhow, my companion was definitely still masturbating (he could have used some lessons on discretion) & I was secretly masturbating. The entire zone secretly made fun of him and I kept hearing comments that our area would die because we couldn't have the spirit because he was unworthy. (Unfortunately I was too insecure to stand up for him.)

As it turned out we had 8 baptisms in the 2 months we were together. (About the same as the whole rest of the zone put together.) I'm not proud of those baptisms anymore, but it quite clearly illustrates that masturbation in no way impeded baptisms. And he was one of my favorite companions.

it's not like missionaries can just go to someone's house and start surfing porn. The real reason they want them off the internet is because they don't want them discovering the truth. One time, and I truly mean 1 time on my mission, my comp and I went on the internet. What did we learn? Temple penalties. That was a doozy! It didn't take long to find that. We were at a non-member's house, no way we would have attempted to look up porn, at someone else's house? No way. The MP wants them to stay a mile away from the internet, and it's probably nothing to do with porn or pop ups. I mean, who doesn't have a popup blocker on these days. What a douche
