I just got back from a fun-filled week at a resort in Kentucky. I drove and had to go through St. Louis. I was on the I-64 freeway and all of the sudden there was the Mormon temple. It's kind of a "in your face" thing -- glaringly white and with a guy on top tooting his horn.

Of course, many know that the Washington DC temple is in your face as you travel on the I-495 Beltway -- often known in the area as the Wizard of Oz's home base.

And you can't miss the San Diego temple unless you close your eyes.

A couple of years ago I was in Campinas, Brazil. I rented a car and again, there it was -- a good-size temple on the hillside as you pass by on the freeway. Imagine, halfway down the world and I run into a temple.

Are temples purposely built on sites to get as much exposure as they can get?

Then take missionary discussions to find out why your tits caught on fire.

Then pay 10% of your money to get inside the thing that almost caused a car accident.

Air tight strategy really.

I have tits?

Maybe I do but they weren't combustible when I drove by.

Yeah, the traffic was heavy when I drove by and so I couldn't pay it much attention but I did notice how white the edifice was with the greenest grass and flourishing flowers on its grounds when everything in the surrounding areas were burnt to the crisp because of the severe draught in Missouri.

What kind of monster are you?

I thought it was Goaly Host and now you say it's Holy Ghost. Are dinosaur brains really that small? You really know how to confuse a person.

What do I know about tits and bosoms? I don't even know my bra size would be. I'm a guy and I just know that I like them bigger than what I have.

Besides, any burning of the bosom, according to my doctor, is a heartburn from eating too many jalepenos in my Subway sandwich.

The bulk of them are indeed built to be a show off thing.

The only one I've seen that isn't like that is the little McTemple in Spokane, WA. It is behind an Albertson's grocery store on a country road.

I feel bad when looking at pics of the one that LD$ Inc is building in Honduras. Look at the shacks around it.

The McTemple in Sacramento is not very visible either, it is in a suburb of the city and not very visible from the freeway, all you can see is the lone spire from a far distance.

The one in Albuquerque, NM is on the outskirts of town and not visible from either freeway, and the city buses don't stop at it (this may have changed, I'm not sure). Last time I was up that way, there were no hotels or places to eat near the temple either.

if a person believes that Christ has already come as in the new testament Christ, then there is no more need for temples.

as well the old testament temple was to house the one and ONLY arc of the covenant, so by God's declaration there was only supposed to be ONE temple on the earth.

EVERY successive temple that LDS inc enthusiastically builds is actually an architectural testimony that MORmONS are not Christians. WAY TO GO, MORmONS!

It sure seems like they try to, as much as local building codes will allow.

p.s. Loved this exchange:
"Then take missionary discussions to find out why your tits caught on fire."
"I have tits? Maybe I do but they weren't combustible when I drove by."

:-)

As with finances, the secret to temples is keeping it secret... The whited sepulchre thing, or great and spacious building in mormon parlance.

One of mormonisms greatest successes (aka scams) is convincing its adherents to give 10% of their money to go to temples and perform sacred/secret rituals for DEAD people, and then emphatically insist on being Christian.

Learning those handshakes to allow you to pass the angels who stand as sentinals so you can get into heaven....

Exclusiveness and pride, under the guise of "only what's best for the Lord."

My city has a McTemple, built about 12 years ago adjacent to a meetinghouse in a suburban neighborhood way out on the edge of town. Barely noticeable from the main road. I'd bet 95% of the city's population has no idea it's there.

The Rome temple is being built very close to a freeway as well.
Also, it resembles a Catholic cathedral.

The Boston temple looms large over the highway. The residents were pissed about how high the spire was going to be. We were "encouraged" to drive an hour north to go to town hall and city planning meetings to show our support for the temple.

Of course, they said all this opposition was due to The Adversary.

Oh, edit. They specifically told us they wanted to build it on that particular parcel so people would see it when they were driving on the highway. So the answer to your question is yes.

So, mormons are supposed to wear garments under their clothes because they are humble servants of god, not like those high falutin' show-off pope guys.

How come their temples aren't mellow little meeting houses, then?
