Peggy Fletcher Stack said in the Tribune a week ago that in addition to Mormon women who are completely satisfied with their role in the church -- juxtapositioned with feminists who want to hold the priesthood -- is an emerging wave of women who seek more influence:

"They are not pushing for ordination, but they crave a more engaged and visible role for women in the Utah-based LDS Church. It is a role, they believe, their Mormon foremothers played — and one that could fit easily into the institutional structure without distorting or dismantling doctrine."

...to the conference yesterday. Some came from as far as the east coast. These are the same friends who remain in the church because they want to affect a change from within even though they know the history and have problems with the doctrine.

I don't know how they remain, but conferences like this one give them hope for their causes. Here's a link to the conference site: http://www.thc.utah.edu/?&pageId=6466
