not a smoking gun, but this is still fantastic! wow...

if your church is so reminiscent of a dying, mass-murdering, communist regime--is that a problem? :)

Hmm, communist dictatorship vs consecrationist dictatorship. A lot of similarities there. The key difference is that in China you can die to escape communism. Mormonism, you're stuck for time and eternity.

The biggest difference is one of them have more women in leadership position.

Thanks for putting that up. Those were my thoughts too but you have illustrated them very well.

Hmmm. Ubercool technocrat geniuses or goose-stepping dough-people in denim jumpers covered in baby-puke. I don't know WHO I would prefer to have running things...

My leaving the church coincided with a graduate class on Modern Chinese history....the similarities on so many levels caused cognitive dissonance that cracked my mind wide open!

Actual quote from a newspaper:
"Even the way this transition was carried out was emblematic of the party's increasingly anachronistic ways. In an age of social media and rising expectations of transparency, a relatively tiny handful of current party leaders and retired septuagenarians and octogenarians met secretly over months in closed-door bargaining sessions to hash out the new Standing Committee."

It's talking about the Chinese government, but I think we all can agree it is almost a perfect description of the COB.
