the worries of a mormon...

https://www.facebook.com/groups/132637475343/permalink/10154509923710344/

Ok so I have a question. Is it ok to pray to be released from a calling I don't like. I have prayed for help to like it but to no avail. I am doing it to be obedient but I get no joy at all. Please, I really need advice. I asked my bishop to release me but he said no.

some great wisdom ensues...

There Is probably something you need to learn from that calling. Remember that three different people prayed for inspiration and got your name.

That is some serious brainwashing.

Wow, almost none of the comments are empathic or supportive of the OP.

"Tiffany Casteel: You should feel blessed to have a calling. Many members of the church don't have one. I believe our heavenly father has a plan for us all and maybe your calling may be preparing you for something yet to come."

"Kevin Wasson: Couldn't disagree more...if you don't like a calling, big deal. It's about what you GIVE, notwhat you GET. Doubting the bishop...I'm going out on a limb and guess that he IS inspired here, and she has things to learn."

"Kevin Wasson: Not sure liking it or not is on the Lords Top Ten list for releasing someone. Pulling a handcart kinda sucked, but the early Saintsut their shoulder to the wheel and did it"

Only in Mormonism do they turn volunteering into a commandment that must be obeyed and endured to the end.

I'm kind of surprised by the mean tone. I guess everyone hates their callings and think the pain should be spread.

Most of the comments have a "suck it up like the rest of us!" kind of a message.

Isn't a calling something God asks you to do personally? Why would a bishop know what God is calling someone else to do? If it were truly your calling, you would want to do it. I never could understand why they called it a calling and not just forced volunteering.

Do what I did.... I said I prayed and got the answer that

the calling was not for me so I have to give it up. It worked.

How are they going to know you didn't get an answer like

that?

do you still believe in the church or something?
