Probably because it is a church.

The 2012 Tax Return Informtion for the LDS church is nor available yet. But, I want to share this with you. The following is what the lds church HQ and the ward have listed as their programs as a charitable organization. For those of us who know better, we can see that these program only benefit the organization. They do not benefit any other part of the community.

#5 re sponsoring the scounts, alsobenefits the church only, as the sponsoship is through the programs provided for the lds kids within the lds building, which are used to teach the priesthood to boys. Even then, the church is very stingy with their budgets. In my last ward the scouts took the thickes chunk of the budget and it was still not enough to sustain the program without donations for parents and members of the ward.

This information is taken from the 2011 T3010 Return that charitable organizations must filed here in Canada.

-----------------------
Ongoing Program:
1. We hold religious meetings on Sundays
2. We sponsor youth and ladies programs
3. We provide for the needy
4. We visit the elderly
5. We sponsor Boy Scouts programs and other related activities.

The primary purpose of the charity is to teach the religious doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to help people improve their lives and satisfy their temporal needs by encouraging education, improving employment and providing welfare assistance.
