I have trouble taking the stuff in the Temple seriously.

And it's not just the clothes and the silence.It's the mirrors! Eternity mirrors, reflecting everyone.


Unfortunately, we all look like Cylons. Our reflections make it look like there are many copys of each of us.

The mirrors are everywhere. It wouldn't surprise me if they do that to try and mentally make you think there are more people attending.

In fact, i'm surprised they haven't installed mirrors in the chapels. They could then double their count.

That makes sense. So it's all smoke & mirrors, without the smoke? Make us think it's a GREAT big thing.

I just have a hard time taking it seriously when I was _literally_ reminded of / thinking about Sci Fi shows while there!

I remember that I didn't give the standard answer to the "what do you see in the mirrors" question, and the officiator having no idea what to say about that except prompt me to give the approved answer. That was a very clear early experience that the temple was about procedure, not enlightenment.

What is the approved answer they want to hear?

The young women's leaders when I was younger loved to talk about the mirrors in the sealing rooms. "You get to stand there with your husband and look in the mirrors and see yourselves go into eternity because you are super special and sealed for eternity" or something like that to make us oooh and ahhh and say we wanted to get married in the temple.

I remember going to a temple open house and actually thinking it was pretty cool to see..so dumb in hindsight.
