"Hordeum pusillum" (Little Barley) is wild grass that is considered to be a grain that was sometimes cultivated by Native Americans, and not much, if at all, in Central America, as food source (not, anyway, as a *main* food source).

Why then would this wild grass, or "agricultural weed", be a basis for the Nephites gold and silver "money"?

Things I think about when I can't sleep at night.

Plans to implement the obvious use to brew mild barley beverages from the crop were shelved when it was discovered that Native Americans have a genetic weakness for wrong sort of spirit which conveys an indifference to prevailing proscribed religious superstitions.
