I just found out that in our town we have a car repair shop run by devout Christians. If you take your car in there for any kind of work, one of the items on your bill is "10% contribution to our church."

So you pay $650 for the car repair, plus a $65 contribution to the owners' church.

They take the item off if you complain, but then you come across as anti-religious.

I don't give a rat's patootie if I come across as "anti-religion".

The idea of branding your business as Christian seems rather crass. The idea of wanting to do business only with other Christians is petty and arrogant. I'm trying to imagine how it fits within the general what-would-Jesus-do guideline.

At least the fish serves as a warning to those who don't want to be part of that scene.

I would think that is not legal. It is forced charity. How ridiculous.

balls to charge your customer a 10% surcharge for *your* church.

I hope business falls off big time for these religiots,

Are they actually getting away with this bullshit?

I doubt that it's illegal, though it is certainly outrageous. On the other hand, I would be sure to hang onto that bill so that I could claim the 10% contribution on my taxes!

Can't believe this guy actually gets people to do this. It's just more money to the repair guy. It's not like people who pay the additional 10% are going to get a tax receipt because it is in no way a charitable contribution. It's just added income for the guy. That is so devious, but my guess is he's laughing all the way to the bank.

Unbelievable. I wonder if they really donate that to their church?

So then when (if?) the business sends all the "donations" collected to the church, they probably do it in the businesses name and not the individual's name, so they have a huge charitable donation to offset the business taxes.

I would be INFURIATED if that happened to me, and I don't think it would come off as anti-religious. What if I was already giving 10% to my own religion (not that I have one). The business should be set straight and told that they are supposed to give 10% of their income, people aren't supposed to give 10% of their spending.

What if their parts dealers did that to them?

If they're collecting 10% of each person's bill for tithing, do they also contribute 10% of their own income? Wow... how do they get away with that nonsense?
