There is no place for 'loyal opposition' in the church.

"The Church is making great efforts to be transparent with the records we have, but after all we can publish, our members are sometimes left with basic questions that cannot be resolved by study. That is the Church history version of “opposition in all things.” Some things can be learned only by faith "

Oaks, telling tbm's they just need bigger shelves.

I'm reminded of Winston Churchill's comment: "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others."

Reason is the worst form of understanding our world, except for all the others. All the others include blind faith and unquestioning obedience to authority.

Good one. It is how modern seers and revelators do it these days.

"Some things can be learned only by faith..."

Sorry, Dallin. Faith doesn't involve any learning. It only involves belief *without* learning.

Once you learn, and have facts, there's no need for 'faith.'
In fact, there's no need for 'faith' at all.
Just learning.

They are sure laying it on thick these days. It reeks of desperation. I guess being kind, loving, interesting, thoughtful, respectful, etc. is out of fashion.

Just keep beating those galley slaves!

And having faith does not allow you to ignore reality staring you in the face.

Faith does not resolve the contradictions in Joseph Smith's accounts of his first vision.

Faith does not explain or excuse the Book of Mormon's countless problems: DNA, linguistic whoopsies, historical anachronisms, and racism.

What would more faith do to help a person maintain belief that Joseph Smith was able to translate ancient languages, when the Book of Abraham and Kinderhook plate fiascos demonstrates otherwise?

How would more faith help us develop sympathy for Joseph Smith's abuse of power to secure marriages to married women, and teenagers?

Does more faith help us gain a testimony of blood atonement?

Why does the lacking faith of members compel the LDS Church to keep its financial information secret?

When will faith reveal the seemingly relentless desire of LDS leaders to avoid understanding human sexuality?

If Lord Elohim makes such amazing faith available to LDS members, why can't the CES curriculum include frank discussion of these types of issues?

Look---friend Dallin--people have tried and tried and tried, but ultimately we cannot throw our lives away supporting your lavish, pampered lifestyle and get no answers. Now, I know you don't have any--it's just time to admit it.

Grrr...

Shesh, 'loyal opposition', is quite the silly term. Is that a way for Oaks to attempt to get away with saying, without going out on a limb and saying it, that the cult absolutely cannot tolerate any opposition, you know as in regular healthy opposition which can and does create dialogue and thinking?

If the cult did tolerate opposition, they would have to answer members' letters filled with questions, hold GENUINE, not pre-written, question and answer forums, and just plain take the time to kindly and forthrightly answer member questions when they are asked them. Nope, that is not how it rolls and it definitely is NOT how it will ever roll. The Swedish and Boise Rescue are examples of how the cult actually works. The all-knowing-cult will tell you what the questions are and they. and they alone, will be the ones to shout out the correct answers.

(Any questions???.......did you say, gulp, yes. You really are a slow study, aren't you? No worries. Off with your body to the excommunication court next Sunday as you know you are not allowed to say yes without first being told that you do have questions.)
