I believe there are eight quorums of 70s at the present time.

From the LDS website: https://www.lds.org/church/leaders/presidency-of-the-seventy?lang=eng

"The Presidency of the Seventy consists of seven members of the First or Second Quorum of the Seventy who are called by the First Presidency and are given authority to preside over the Quorums of the Seventy.

"Most presidencies in the Church have a presidency of three: a president and two counselors. However, in accordance with scripture, all are presidents in the Presidency of the Seventy—none are counselors: “And it is according to the vision showing the order of the Seventy, that they should have seven presidents to preside over them, chosen out of the number of the seventy; and the seventh president of these presidents is to preside over the six” (D&C 107:93–94)."

Just made up gunk by Joe Smith & Co.

"According to the vision?"

What vision? You mean like the one from 1820 that you made up, Joey? You couldn't even remember it when you published the first history of the church and said you were praying in 1823 (when the angel appeared) for "...the all important information, if a Supreme being did exist." (Messenger and Advocate, vol. 1, pp. 78-79, Kirtland, Ohio). (For the full quote see: page 161 of http://www.utlm.org/onlinebooks/changech6.htm)

Oh, and a note to LDS INC. Correlation Department: Why do you leave out that important statement in church lesson manuals?

Thanks for the info. With there being 8 quorums now, whom has responsibility for the 8th quorum? Is there going to be another "revelation" necessary to call an eight president from the 1st or 2nd quorum to preside over additional quorums?

It appears that they are presiding over quorums for the sake of presiding over quorums. What's the purpose? Or is it just one big exercise in circle-jerking?

even though membership and attendance numbers are so seriously contracting.

Becoming top-heavy is always the sign of a failing organization.

The 70's are suppose to have equal power with the 12, and the 12 have equal power to the first presidency according to D&C. But of course that wasn't realistic for certain men in the past that wanted more control (BY). So the 70's were put in their place and the 12 get to tell them what to do (which wasn't the original plan). And then there was the quorum of 50 which came and went for some reason?
