I loved Joe Cocker's music...it makes me feel really old to find out that I'm only 5 years younger than he was..he always seemed so old............

How sad. I'm not too familiar with his songs. But the one song I do remember was “Up Where We Belong.” The song appeared on the soundtrack to the 1982 Richard Gere and Debra Winger film “An Officer and a Gentleman.”

I haven't been able to think of Joe Cocker without next thinking of Belushi since seeing the SNL performance live in the 1970s.

I hadn't followed Joe's career in recent years, but I remember the last time I saw him on Austin City Limits maybe 7-10 years ago. Good stuff. He will definitely be missed. RIP

'Feelin' Alright' was always one my favs. I perform it with my band sometimes.
I always try to add the 'Cocker-isms' ...scrinching my face up, waving my arms around, contorting my body ... like only he could.
It always gives the band a chuckle, and gives them something to tease me about. Hey, just trying to be authentic!
Thanks for letting me know this sad news. I didn't know.
You will be missed Joe.

Even though this was written with a girl in mind, it contains some imagery that might pertain to this forum.
I thought I would toss it up for the sake of old Joe's memory.

"Feelin' Alright" Joe Cocker/Dave Mason

Seems I got to have a change of scene
Cause every night I have the strangest dreams
Imprisoned by the way it used to be
Left here on my own or so it seems
I got to leave before I start to scream
But someone's locked the door and took the key

Feelin' alright
Not feelin' too good myself
Feelin' alright
Not feelin' too good myself

Boy you sure took me for one big ride
Even now I sit and wonder why
And when I think of you I start to cry
Got to stop belivin' in all your lies
Cause I got to much to do before I die

Before someone comes along and takes my place
With a different name and yes a different face

For some reason I thought it was an addiction song. Fantastic song whatever it was

I guess it could be about addiction. I thought it was about leaving a cheatin' girl. Who knows, damn ...it's like the Jesus myth now. Arrrgg. RIP Joe.

I Was living in Delta County, Co. when he and his wife bought a place just outside of Crawford. The whole town went nuts, figured that the place had been "discovered" and it was only a matter of time until it turned into another Telluride.

He and his wife could sense the fear of the locals. So, they took out a full page add in the local weekly newspaper, laying out all these grand plans for like a 40 story resort, etc.. The town went into a panic until they noticed the date on the paper. April 1. They realized that they had been had and from then on the Cockers were a welcome part of the community.

I would see them there every now and then. Good people from what the locals told me.

Bar off La Cumbre. He was a regular and used to get up and sing every night - just couldn't help himself. I think those were his "lost" years.

Oh, so sad. He wasn't very old. I saw him about 15 years ago, as the opening act for Tina Turner. He was absolutely amazing. After his set, and before Tina came on, my friend turned to me and said, "Well, if we had to leave now, I'd be satisfied." RIP Joe.

While this was a minor hit for Jose Feliciano in the fall of 1968, it was Joe Cocker's version, that was never released as a single, that was my favorite. "I'm gonna ride for love and freedom," he sings during the song's closing. And you better believe that I am riding on that train!
