If the church finally rejects the BOM and other Mormon doctrines, would you be willing to stay in the church or come back if they just follow the bible?

This seems to be what the RLDS has done.

The Book of Mormon is one of the least offensive parts of Mormonism. Let's ditch the D&C and Pearl of Great Price first!

But in answer to your question, there's no fucking way I'm ever returning!

The Bible is just as problematic. Having been around longer doesn't make it any more worthwhile.

I will NEVER go back. The foundation of the Church is a LIE. They could even denounce Joseph Smith as "Prophet", but I will never trust those liars, deceivers and hypocrites again.

No, because somewhere between when I left the LDS Church and now, I became a completely non-religious person. I'd say that I downright dislike religion now, a lot.

i supppose if they scrapped everything and said they wanted to start over with a church whose only litmus test of faith was a belief in treating others well, I'd give it a thought. short of that, I can't see any reason to go back.

They won't reject the BOM

But they will accept that it may not be an actual ancient
history of an actual civilization. Note I say "may." As things
stand now if you advocate that it is an "inspired parable" and
not an actual history you are ripe for excommunication. I see
the day when the Church will allow the "inspired parable"
viewpoint to be openly advocated among the membership.

Once that happens then the "it's a real history" crowd will
slowly die out and the "inspired parable" interpretation will be
a de-facto understanding (if not officially embraced).

...just not on this Earth ;)

They can't dump the "Book Of Mormon." Everything stands and falls on Joseph Smith having the "truth." They've pushed this for so long they've dug their own grave.

I suppose they could have a year long countdown prep for a new "revelation" that will finally reveal at long last that the Brethren have known for "some time" Joseph Smith was a con man, grifter and swindler and the BoM was "inspired fiction" but nevertheless chosen by Elohim to "restore" the "true church" on Earth. Thus, the "truth" can be revealed to the faithful -- after a period of adequate preparation and persuasion ( a'la the briefing room scene in "2001: A Space Odyssey") to prevent mass panic. People who don't care about facts will stay in the church and part with 10% of their income because they like the structure, culture and faux reality of LDS Mormonism.

With a toll-free number to God you can claim to do anything in His name...

I don't think I'd go back, unless they did something very drastic like changed all their churches and temples into science research buildings.

The main problem with the church for me was that it wasn't making me happy, that was a bigger problem for me than any doctrinal or historical issue. If I knew the church was false but it made me extremely happy to be a mormon I probably would've stayed.

It would take a lot more than ditching the BoM to make me go back. I think I'd be better off just starting over with a different organization if I ever decide I need one.

For me it would have to reject:-

BoM
BoA
PoGP
Bible
Brainwashing children
Lying for the Lord
First Vision
Elohim, Jehovah and Satan as real personages
Racism
Homophobia
Misogyny
Bigotry
Masonic rituals
Second Anointing
Priesthood so called power
Enquiring in to private sexual practices
Perverting the course of justice, including perjury
Fraud
Financial secrecy
Victimising truth seekers
Splitting families
Guilting 18 year old and seniors into serving missions or providing free labour
etc. etc. etc.

Then, having rid itself of all its untruths and harmful practices, it would need to actually do some good. Now what could that possibly be that is not already done by others?

Relieve poverty
Heal the sick (medical science is doing a good job on this)
Promote world peace
Encourage happy and fulfilling lives
Advance scientific understanding
Promote the creative arts
resolve world conflicts (particularly those with a religious dimension)

Do we not already have organisations concentrating on these matters better than TSCC is capable of?

I would never go back, no matter how much they whitewash it or sugar coat it. It could not possibly change enough to draw me back. There is nothing in the church that is redeemable. And besides, what would be special about it at that point?

When my life is so much happier outside of religion, and I mean ANY religion, there is no incentive to join at all. Nada! It took me some time, but I figured out my happiness depends on me and my choices in life. Religion/church is not part of that equation. I feel very lucky to have figured this out.

The BoM was one of my least problems with the church. My grandma got me a set of "BoM Stories" when I was a kid and I loved reading them.

Accepting that the BM is fiction is a nice start, but then what do you do with the pervert JS and BY?

No, I would not go back, ever, UNLESS I believed that JS was a prophet and the BoM were true. Otherwise, why join a homophobic, racist, sexist cult that wants all my time and money to build malls and give nothing back. There are churches within walking distance of my house that have more to offer than Moism. The only thing they have on me is heritage, and most of my family are JackMos.

Not a chance in hell that I’d ever go back, but I would be less disgusted with them if they rejected the BOM….plus:
The Bible
D&C
PoGP
The notion that anyone who is now, or anyone who has ever been, a member of the FP or Q12 is or was in any way a “prophet,” “seer,” or revelator.”
That the priesthood has any real power.
Any claim the temple rituals have any meaning or validity.
That an all-powerful god needed to have his son murdered, and that I have to accept his sacrifice, to not be punished eternally.

The BOM isn't the problem

It's the con. So what you're asking is, if the shell game were operated with different colored cups, would you get back in the game.

No. It's still a con.

The BofM isn't the problem, it's the bait. It would have to be a completely different church for me to want to return. Sexism, homophobia, racism and the church's greed are all too much for me.

1. TSCC will drop by BoM, but never admit it. It is a matter of simple evolution.
2. I would not return. The origins are TSCC are too corrupt.
3. Unlike some posters, however, a total change of doctrines along with being personally told to join by Christ, I would rejoin. The likelihood appears extremely remote.

For me, it's more social justice.
. when women have the option to hold the priesthood, when SSM is supported... So in other words, not in my lifetime! But yeah, BOM has some disturbing stories in it.

Nothing would entice me to go back. I can't unlearn what I have learned and what I have learned is that the church has lied about everything, there is nothing to go back to.

The Bible promotes things like genocide, slavery, treating women as property, maiming, mutilation, rape, animal sacrifice, polygamy, and other barbaric unenlightened stuff.

I won't go back to the Mormon church until they also reject the Bible, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. At that point the Mormon church would be an atheist social club, and if I was feeling sociable, it might be fun to go the activities.
