If you write out the first 28 digits of pi you get

3.141592653589793238462643383

Now 28 is a perfect number, that is, it's the sum of its proper
divisors--the numbers (other than itself) that divide evenly
into it: 1, 2, 4, 7, 14. Add them up and it totals 28.

Now in the first 28 digits of pi there are a remarkable number
of three-digit palindromes: 141; 535; 979; 323; 626; and 383.
That's 18 of the first 28 digits are part of a three-digit
palindrome! That leaves only 10 of the first 28 digits that
are not part of a three-digit palindrome.

This MUST prove the existence of God!

Or, if you think it's just some cute little after-the-fact
discovery then you probably aren't convinced by the NHM on a
rock in Yemen either.

Amazing! So, is there a Church of π that I should be joining?

Yes, but the rules are much easier. "Tithing" is only 3.14% and the only food which is forbidden is cake. Maria Antoinette is seen as the Anti-Christ.

Well, I guess I should write the first 28 digits of pi in base
8 (or, should I say the first 34 digits of pi?)

3.110375524210264302151423063 . . .

Of course, in binary the first 11100 digits of pi are

11.00100100001111110110101010 . . .

Wow, that is over 95% 1's and zeros when expressed in binary! What a miracle!

There are 10 kinds of people- those who understand Binary, and those who don't.

The only people who have problems with "new math" are people who simply dont understand the concepts of math to begin with.

Well, what do you expect from a god who is into chiasmus?

He also is very sneaky about numbers in the Bible.

He likes handshakes, and secret names too.

He's so clever!

Pi gets it's freak on like that, it's irrational

And because that works out mathematically, we now know that only 2 earrings may be used, tattoos are forbidden, and masturbation is deserving of suicide inducing guilt?

Yes, as we know, "all truth may be circumscribed unto one great whole."

Truth shall not be circumscribed until the 8th day, and preferably by Henry D. Moyle...

Yes, Don, I was also hoping for the Church of Pie. I would really like to join that one. I can't seem to find it in the local yellow pages, but I will keep looking. Is there any chance of a Church of Pie and Ice Cream?

Noble Pies in Warwick NY is the closest I have come. Great pie, Bellevale Farms ice cream, and decent coffee.

That doesn't prove the existence of god; it proves the existence of mathematics.

Must it? Or does it just "prove" the existence of interesting numbers?

You're right -- I'm not convinced by NHM on a rock, other than that NHM was written on a rock a while back (and probably by the Nehemites, who are known to have been an existing tribe in the area for 2600+ years). :)

Yes, by the way, I know you were being sarcastic. I'm not sure the believers in gods will understand your jab at arguments from personal incredulity, though :)

you bunch of godless innumerates!!!!

in the bible, we read

2 Chronicles 4:2

"Then he made the sea of cast metal. It was round, ten cubits from brim to brim, and five cubits high, and a line of thirty cubits measured its circumference."

Well, since circumference is 2*pi*radius, this is 2*3*5 = 30.

god, in his inerrant book says pi is 3!

he said it
i believe it
that settles it

there is no chiasmus. there are no palindromes. after the 3, it is an infinite string of zeros!

If you prefer, we can keep baura happy; pi is 11

no need to thank me

Hey! Be careful with that. Cake is true, also, if there is ice cream. Ice cream brings truth. (If you are lactose intolerant, I have a great, easy recipe for a frozen dessert that is almost as good. Just as good, some people say. So no need to let that spoil the true faith.)

A nephew of mine was attending BYU when I was. One day he came over all excited and proceeded to tell be that the barcode on a milk container had 3 sets of long parallel lines in it...one at the front, one in the middle, and one at the end.

This actually is/ was true.

Then he tells me that the parallel lines are the number 6.

And that three sets of them is.....666.....oooooh scary!!!!

I replied that its six hundred and sixty six.....not 3 sixes spread out through a bunch of other numbers/ symbols, etc.

He sort of frowned and replied..."well, its still pretty freaky!"

I don't know what his point was....milk is evil? Satan controls milk? If you drink milk you're in league with Satan?

Mormons say the craziest things!

Only 18 of the first digits are three-digit palindromes? That makes Pi agnostic, it would need to have 27 to prove God.
