DNA Consultants lab referenced in the article is not a credible source.

Here are several previous RFM posts that might give you some more info.

Since every white person in the US wants to claim that they are descended from a Cherokee princess, I think it's only fair.

But two wrongs don't make a right.

This "Cherokee princess" thing was never true, and in the 21st century is very close to (if not over the line) to being an unfounded slur.

There are undoubtedly millions of American citizens who are descendants of Cherokee ancestors...both in the [now] general North Carolina area, and in [now] Oklahoma and surrounding states areas, as well as probably every state (and at least most every county) in the United States: wherever those ancestors and descendants of ancestors went (such as the migrations during the Great Depression, which means mostly California), and the states THOSE descendants may have since migrated to.

We are basically everywhere and, to my knowledge, none of us are [or have ever been] "princesses." ;)

My mother knew her Cherokee paternal grandmother personally, as did her sister, my aunt. There are millions of Americans who are exactly like me (maybe a generation or two more removed).

It is plausible that over the last 1000 years some form of European or other DNA could have been incorporated into the Native American DNA pool.

Vikings, fishermen blown off course, shipwrecked sailors, early traders, trappers etc could have chosen to live with atribe here or there.

But that does not mean that as a people the tribe originated from Europe.
