Channel-surfing the BYU Channel (back in the day before I cancelled it out of sheer borecom), I came across Sister Sheri Dew introducing Merrill Bateman at a BYU Women's Conference in 1997.

She said, and I quote:

"President Bateman's list of accomplishments is as long as my leg and, as you can see, that's pretty long."

She paused, cleared her throat, raised an eyebrow slightly and smiled--but there was virtually no reaction from the audience.

For one thing, the audience couldn't even see Sister Dew's leg, since she was standing behind a podium and, moreover, what kind of kinky-kooky Mormon fantasy world does the pent-up Sister Dew live in, where she's imagining people gawking at her leg?

It was bizarre--and should have prompted a bishop's interview, on the spot.

She has some pent-up energy. She knew she could state that at a Women's Conference and get away with it!

Sounds like she's still going through that awkward stage... =)

Since the three of us were all at BYU at the same time, was she as ugly then as she is now?

Yes. They are fatter than they used to be and I've seen early pictures of them ...

I think if you referred to more GAs as weird, we would have more chances to call them ugly.

. . . not to physical features.

Recall that you called Dew "ugly," while not affirming that you had also so described the Mormon male hierarchy.

OINK!

Seeing as how the topic of Sheri Dew's long leg came up I don't find it out of place to comment on her appearance. Must someone bring up the appearance of everyone else in the world in order to make a comment about the topic here?

Go ahead and oink away at me(I am not the original poster). I find no point in thinking about the attractiveness of males since I am a hetero male myself. Seems like you could compare that to any number of species including pigs.

As the original poster I would have to agree that ugly was the wrong word. Scary would describe her better.

That tends to be a macho-male thing.

Frightening better describes what I am trying to convey.

I don't see her as such; rather, she comes across to me as being a willing and quirky handmaiden for the male leaders of a cult that they created for themselves--a faithful female follower who has turned over her existence to life-stunting service in a patriarchal order that denies her valuable human experience and independent identity.

That seclusion, in my opinion. warps everything from ground-level reality checks to appreciation of what constitutes an operative sense of humor--both of which (to me, at least) seemed to be noticeably lacking in Sister Dew's "gaze upon my leg" moment as she addressed her male bosses at a women's conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Sexually-Repressed Saints.

Maybe it has something to do with her own unnaturally confined biological urges.

Who knows?

It just seemed really weird.

She loves to hear herself talk, and doesn't give much thought to what she actually says. It's a way for her to demonstrate her dominance.

There are other examples on YouTube. I think she learned it from Hinckley.

Sadly, many sexually repressed BYU students would probably enjoy gawking at Sister Dew's garment-covered leg.

My goodness. That seemed like a great deal of effort to make Hinkley seem normal. "No seriously, he's not weird!"
