So, spirit children are what we are before we get sent to that probationary place, Earth. Everybody knows that, right?
But here's what a TBM explains when someone asks "What does spirit children mean in mormonism?":
"When we say “spirit children” we are referring to all humankind, who are spirit children of our Father in Heaven.
Hebrews 12:9 says[1]
Hebrews 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
In this verse the “Father of spirits” clearly refers to God, because we are counseled to be in subjection to Him. And from Psalms 82:6 [2]
Psalms 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
So we are all children of the most High, or children of the “Father of spirits”.
There are other biblical references to this doctrine, and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or “Mormons” accept additional modern scriptures and revelation that clarify and add to this concept. [3]
D&C 76:24 That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God."
I think this is the *exact* same answer you'd get from a mainstream Methodist or Catholic. Maybe they should have asked what are pre-mortal spirits are and seen what the non-weird LDS answer would be.
