I remember them, but I eschewed them in favor of:

That was my mother's go-to right there.

I prefered the boil in a bag dinners. Chicken ala king, veal parmesan, turkey and gravy, chipped beef and I think sloppy joe.

Poured them on bread or ate with boil in a bag rice.

I remember those! My parents also bought "TV tray tables" so we could eat our TV dinners in front of the TV! Back in the late 50's and early 60's, the big box TV was becoming such an important part of our culture, we couldn't tear ourselves away. We would not DARE miss Walter Cronkite and the evening news.

Hey!dont laugh, that's what I eat on now...the kind that folds up and gets real skinny to put away. I still like to eat dinner in front of the tv.... A bad case of arrested development.

Yes, the TV dinners, La Choy, and Vienna Sausages along with the TV Trays. Those from Michigan and the Midwest, remember Milky the Twin Pines clown? I remember when Twin Pines was delivered to the door in the early 60's.

I liked Turkey, Salisbury Steak, Roast Beef, and Fried Chicken. They used to be better than they are now.

We had the folding TV trays too, but we only used them when my TBM dad was on business trips. Mom was all for watching TV at dinner when he was gone. At 6:00pm, they showed reruns of Star Trek, The Big Valley, and other hour long shows, so that's what we watched.

good old days :)

if I was shopping with my mother, she would allow me to choose my own dinner!! And NONE of them had gaggy vegetables that could compare to her home-overcooked ones.

We never ate in front of TV, though. Had to eat at the table.

Having a Swanson TV dinner was a special occasion in my house. Kinda like going out for a fancy burger at McDonald's.

This was always my choice. NO VEGGIES!!! -

How about the libbyland dinners for kids?

Came with Nestle Quick chocolate milk powder. Made that powdered milk from food storage almost palatable.

Ugggggghh. Drinking powdered milk from food storage was like drinking vomit. Mixed with Nestle Quick chocolate milk powder...like drinking chocolate vomit.

I remember being so excited when they came out with "Hungry Man" TV dinners -- more tasteless garbage than the standard sized ones, that always left me hungry!

My favorite (when I got to choose):

The Swanson TV chicken dinners weren't too bad as I recall.

But probably all of our taste buds have become more sophisticated since then.

Hard to imagine there actually was a time before Sushi and cell phones.

I loved the Swanson T.V. dinner. The "new and improved" Swanson dinner had a desert (an attempt at a cobbler).

My parents would go out on Friday nights and leave me alone around 10 years-old. I looked forward to my Swanson dinner, the Mary Tyler Moore Show and Carol Burnett. Good memories.
