I have no info on what a normal time frame is for selection. If Monson is truly incapacitated , does that play into selection or do they go ahead without his input? Could they possibly be waiting for Monson to pass so Nelson (I believe is next in line for prophet) could choose?

Whomever they consider must be thoroughly investigated, vetted and evaluated. They don't want to pick a loose cannon that's going to defect and start spouting off on RFM or mormonleaks. Moreover, they will want somebody that is full of vitriol, anger and hate. The more homophobic and misogynistic; the better the candidate (in their eyes). All of this will take time and then there will be a senior apostle vote in February or March in one of their lofty board rooms.
