Yes, as a descendant of Handcart Pioneers I was shocked when I learned the truth of the REAL causes of the suffering of these Handcart Companies. One of the Danish immigrants among one of the companies returned to his native Denmark a few years afterward and published a book warning his countrymen of the false promises of the Mormons and telling the truth of what really caused their suffering on these Handcart trips.

I was shocked.

The book is titled "Secret History" by John (Johan) Ahmansen.

It horrifies me when groups go out in costume to recreate the Trek.

Would it be appropriate to recreate and celebrate The Donner Party? How about dressing up to do a celebration of Jim Jones and his Jonestown? Maybe a 18th century Slavery pageant? Heaven's Gate? Waco?

(I don't much care for the Civil War re-enactments either!)

Or recreate the crucifixion of ... Hmmm, never mind...

A word about Will Bagley's research and subsequent books: Some of it ain't easy. While reading Bagley's "Blood of The Prophets," I had to ask DH to take it from me and hide it in his workshop. Facts in it hurt me so deeply that I couldn't read anymore.
