No surprise that this bizarre poll on KSL (LDS Inc. owned) is peppered with Mormon leaders of the past. Don't know what to think of this other than it is strange. Wonder what the back story is? Could this be some kind of attempt by LDS Inc. to gauge the importance of LDS Inc. in a Utah that is becoming more and more secular?

I saw this last night on my phone and couldn't make it work, at least while I was AT work.

But OMG, some of the names on that list are just so obscure. I've lived in UT most of my life and don't recognize a good portion of those names, without using Google.

I loved what the author said. He had to re-do the list since it was supposed to be dead people. The first list had Jake Garn on it. He probably was surprised to see he was dead.

But it's seriously and definitely pointless, except to those who think LaVell Edwards is the most prominent Utahn ever.

Butch Cassidy beat out Eyring... I’m pulling for Butch. Butch is hands down the most famous Utahn. I was surprised that Lorreta Young, the 1940’s movie star from Salt Lake wasn’t on the list.

I was thinking Maude Adams as well as the author of "Big Rock Candy Mountain" too

My nevermo vote also goes to Butch Cassidy.

It was Henry Eyring Sr. (the chemist), not Henry Eyring Jr. (the GA).

I am getting out my crystal ball. I see a new bronze sculpture for downtown SLC as a result of this survey. Rather than doing the most prominent Utahn, perhaps they should do a bronze sculpture representing all of the hollowed out Mormons that have been gutted from paying tithing.

Joi Lansing? I'm old and had to look up her name so I could vote for her, just because I liked her name. I vaguely remember her now that I Googled her name:

Well, to their credit they have Ted B*ndy.

Most *prominent* Utahn?

What? No Mark Hofmann?
Plus they spelled Hinckley's name wrong (Gordan). Classic!

I bet Hofmann was under consideration except they remembered he wasn't dead.

Yep. You're right. I just saw they re-did a bracket because Jake Garn is still alive.

I didn't see Rosanne Barr's name.

Oh wait. They are looking for dead ones.

Is it just me, or is KSL treating its readers like they are still in High School ?

It's an arm of the church. High School would be a step up from the usual Jr. High treatment they use to hoist on members.

John Browning, Ted B*ndy, Butch Cassidy, and any obscure name paired against any "president" or "establishment" Mormon.
