Have any of you read John Shelby Sponge books?

He is the one that made me lose faith in TSCC. I liked his book " why Christianity must change or die" . I liked his book "biblical literalism: a gentile heresy" and his most recent is my favorite " unbelievable: why ancient creeds can't produce a living faith today.

No, but I love Spongebob Squarepants.

When he goes to Jellyfish Fields it's a spiritual experience.

I think he writes down to the reader like we're not smart enough, but his actual thinking and content is excellent.

He had to jump on every SJW doctrine imaginable.

Including the notion that Jesus was gay. Perhaps Sponge wasn't "progressive" enough. The latest wrinkle is that Jesus was transgendered! What's next, Jesus as a transgendered cross-dressing lesbian?

I havent read all of his books, but I dont remwmber that although he may have raised the possibility. An unmarried Jewish man in his thirties in that time and place could have been gay-or not. It is a possibility.

While he isn't much of a "critical" scholar, anybody who gets banned from speaking by christian bishops is worth checking into :)
