Some time in the early 60s I did an article on this group. I recall little of their beliefs except that the supposed aliens were from a planet call Melded. Sound familiar?
Amazing how "prophets" seem to find magical, holy places close to their homes, isn't it? For Smith, sacred groves and gold-plate-holding hills and Gardens of Eden and altars in Missouri.

You have to admire his creativity, though, compared to old Joseph. He has his followers gather to pray, with a box in the middle, so their "prayer power" can be stored in the box for later use. Sorta like a magical-prayer-power-battery. Better than Energizers!
