I like trying to be funny and making people laugh. But religion did try its best to destroy my funny and sense of humor.

Without disputing in any way the impact that a SPECIFIC religion has had on you, and on your life, and on your well being...

..."religion" [meaning: religion in general], in certain cases at least, has had an extremely positive effect on humanity's sense of humor...as well as the propensity of humans to laugh their way through the challenges of life and inevitable death.

In particular, Jewish humor (which, in any individual instance may or may not have to do with anything in Jewish religion), and Catholic humor (think: Irish, or Italian, or pope/clergy jokes), are known worldwide for their robust inclination to identify and illustrate, in a funny manner, the universal tragedies and foibles of life.

It isn't "religion" that "tried to kill" your sense of humor, it is an extremely SPECIFIC American religious denomination which did this...and, now, you are free at last to explore the depth and the breadth of your inner humor potentials. :)

I should have been more specific. The mormon religion tried to kill my sense of humor. I only know the effects of one religion really. I think i was born into the worst one on the entire planet especially when it comes to humor.

Oh yes, the Mormon cult tries to kill humor, originality, creativity, loud laughter, and other pleasures.

Whenever I would make an off-the-cuff joke around Mormons, they would think I was serious.

One time I had to be in a stake RS play, on a Saturday, and my character wore a bathrobe and hair rollers, and I was walking into the church building looking like that, and ran into my SIL and her RS clique. They were shocked at my appearance, and I said, "I promised myself that I would be ON TIME for RS--no matter what--ready, or not." They took me seriously, and gave each other looks, and gave me the stink-eye. I was so mad, that I never did explain. I guess they saw me in the play.

Mormon "humor" is best illustrated by GBH, when he told the missionaries that they were "... a sorry-looking bunch, but you will have to do." They think it's funny to put others down, and joke about it. At BYU, we would call that "back-handed humor."

How sad, to feel that others don't want you to laugh and enjoy life, Adam, but I do know what you are talking about. I was always a different person around the Mormons, than I was around my friends, who could be hilarious!

Mormons always thought i was serious too when i would joke around. I didn't know about the temple stuff at that time though so it all makes sense now. I had a great time playing cards last night and i was killing it with badass and quick witted remarks making everybody laugh. I surprise myself when something comes up in my crazy head and it makes people laugh.

Temple endowment....avoid all loud laughter........yep, gotta keep those covenants or else.

Sadistic religion.
Enjoy every last morsel of joyous laughter and humor possible. Being around Mormons will suck out any enjoyable moments in life.

Humor is truly the best medicine.

It will suck out true joy that's for sure. Any legit feelings of real laughter is a rare gift to get back.

Bro, i love to laugh with you! I used to be as serious as a heart attack, then i found the true Boner under the folds of Mormonism. For the record, when you're in the mood, you're a VERY funny, warm, smart, and perceptive. You're my Badass Bro! The fun-filled Boner.

It's harder to be funny online then in person for me. It's all about how you say it and when you say it. Someone yesterday told me that i am the most negative and funniest person all at the same time haha and sometimes in the same minute. This completely describes me i think. The bipolar badass.

I refused to surrender my sense of humor. That's what kept me going. It was my sanity.

I think my humor is keeping me going now. It helps me to remember who i used to be. Not a stone cold emotionless person.

You do come across as a witty person, Adam!

There's a lot of pathos in good humor. The funniest person I ever knew (a professional comedy writer) could also be the most negative and sarcastic, and difficult to get along with. A comedian learns to laugh through the pain (if the pain isn't too extreme.)

I agree with messygoop--I couldn't have stayed a Mormon, if I hadn't been able to laugh at their nonsense. It was the times I took the cult too seriously, that I got into trouble. Once I was out, I found myself laughing many times a day. I still do--who wouldn't with little children, dogs, and cats around! My kids were known for their sense of humor, in their mostly-Mormon high school--and they had the courage to stand up to the Mormons, and to leave.

Humor and laughing does help me get through all different types of pain. When i took religion seriously i got into trouble as well because it is one abusive and brutal cult to guys like me that disguises itself as god's church. I really am lucky to be alive. Maybe not really living the good life yet but i am alive and not a quite as dead and soulless as i once was.

My Mormon father told my brother he was too jovial. My brother works in entertainment and has no love for Mormonism or our idiot father.

I realized today as i saw my father today in his driveway that i really do hate the guy. My fear and respect for him in life really screwed me over earlier in life. I let the dude have control over me because he had god's religion on his side and i had jack squat.

It's a damn shame, isn't it? I am the product of two people who thought they should have children, because their cult leaders told them that. They had seven, and they didn't like us. We were a burden, and they told us so.

If Mormons in general had a sense of humor they'd realize a huge joke is being played on them.

Mine too

HOWEVER, it only made it GROW (stronger)!

AND it Multiplied!

Mormonism/ the LDSc is a Laughing Matter. No matter how it's looked at or sold, it is utterly and patently stupid, funny, crazy, FALSE, rediculous and stifling, all at the same time.

When you squeeze something, it's got to come out somewhere.

Now I just squeeze myself, or have others do it. Ha hhaaa hah

No, I think it's like a creative and clever way to say he or she "ticks her/ his own clock", thinks their own thoughts, or 'speaks for themselves'.

They are agreeing with you that "If [something] it doesn't (didn't) kill you, (it made) it'll make you stronger.

They feel it hasn't "killed" their sense of humor, and may have even sharpened or deepened it.

Don't squeeze the Charmin.
It'll poke you to be spokesman.
Don't poke the bear.
It'll hug you until you scream.
Ice cream!
