I started a post recently that people obviously misinterpreted. It used the word "evolution". Then the tangents started. My point is this: the Bible, the automatically accepted Word of God and charter document for our Western civilization, and in particular white American superiority in all things, IS NOT THE WORD OF GOD AFTER ALL. It is the word of a lot of different people saying they know what God wants. That's not the same thing. So any reference to the Bible as the final answer on anything, such as how humans came to be, is not the final word on anything.

Why does this Biblolatry get a hearing on this site? Because Mormonism, in the final analysis, stands or falls on the truth claims of the Bible. That's where it all starts. The Book of Mormon exists to corroborate the Bible. The Books of Abraham and Moses exist to embellish stories from the Bible. The whole Priesthood thing is grounded in a particular interpretation of events described in the Bible. So sorry, Mr Holland. To challenge the claims of Mormonism one does not need to crawl around the Book of Mormon. One must challenge the basic truth claims of the Bible. And those claims are simply not tenable.

That was my point.

I remember reading that Genesis is a compilation of three books.

That Isaiah is a compilation of 3 or 4 books.

The gospels are supposedly copying from a source or Q gospel and no one really know who reall wrote in many books of the new testament.

I think the reason this board was created was to offer support for those leaving mormonism. It wasn't to disprove other religions or texts per se. So if that's something that people want to discuss in connection with leaving mormonism, that's fine, but it's not the board's main purpose. There are people all over the spectrum here with regards to the bible and it's "truthfulness" or it's origins, etc.

We challenge the Book of Mormon, Book of Abraham and the Doctrine and Covenants non stop on this board.

Challenging the Bible should be no different.

Some of us left mormonism and now just want to have a good time, which luckily, can be easily accomplished by helping others scrape all the mormon goo off. Mormon goo can really foul things up!

Agreed.

If some of these people who claim to be christians actually

knew that the bible was a collection of cobbled together

writings decided upon by catholic priests and popes they

might not have such faith in it.... there was no inspiration

in the written collections and stories which the bible is

based upon. It's far from being a sacred tome and when it

was created the majority of people were illiterate. When

the bible was intruduced , the dark ages began.

To determine whether the Bible is absolute truth, one need not read more than the first paragraph. There's no such thing as a firmament. That ought to clue most people in, but...
