If there's one thing I've learned, it's that missionaries are stupid and do stupid things.

From looking around the site, it looks like the blog of a gay ex-mormon. He probably posted it to have a laugh at his old self. he mentions having served a mission, what are the chances these are missionaries? I don't know the story, but wouldn't it be romantic if two guys met on their mission, fell in love and are still together now? I doubt it as the other guy on the blog doesn't mention being an exmo, but who knows - I didn't find out the story behind the photo so I can imagine something.

Good on him for posting it!

Still not anywhere near as weird as the women's one-piecers. I was imprisoned in those things for 5 years. Stupid cult.

Thanks for the memory LOL!

They were gawd awful.

The two piece ones didn't come out until after I left the church. My TBM friend couldn't wait to tell me about the two piece garments hoping that would help bring me back to the church. Of course I had to remind her I didn't leave because of the garments even though I didn't like wearing them. I left because the church wasn't true.

They came out with the one-piecers right about the time hubs left the military and we became BYU married students with 2 kids. It was at least a year before I could afford even one pair. I could not justify the expense when there was always something we needed more and the ones I had still worked. And hubs HAD to have his 2-piecers first. Ya know, cause even Provo girls didn't want to screw a married man wearing the long johns. It's just criminal that not only do they push kids to get married and pop out kids at way too young an age, they don't even have the option of buying discount cheap undies. The clown panties can be a huge expense for couples.

I hated the one-piecers! I always wore panties over them since they were crotchless. Add to that the bra on top and they were intolerably hot. I was later ex'ed after I went to my bishop to confess that I slept with my boyfriend (who I broke up with for the church), and I was repentant, but kicked out anyways. I can't believe that I worked hard to get rebaptized 3 years later, and was even glad to see that they had changed to two-piecers. I met and married a convert after that and we were TBM for 25 years and raised our girls in the church. Now that I'm recently disaffected, I'm so happy to face a summer without g's for the first time. Hubs is still wearing one-piecers (ugh!), and I'm encouraging him to try out the boxer briefs that I got him.

The "Flower Power" sticker on the late 60s early 70s brown fridge was made from about '67 to '73.
It is a good date indicator of when the picture was taken,it was the early 70s.

I can't believe I was married to someone who wore zip up onesies. They are so incredibly ugly! How could anyone want to cuddle up to awful one piece garments?

And the ugliest parts gape out the back too.

Thank God they didn't have a 'reverse' picture of these two!

When I left the church a year ago I put all my garments in a bag and put it in the attic. There's bound to be some onesies in there, as those were preferable since I wouldn't have to keep tucking in my top after sitting. SOOOO glad I don't have to do that any longer!

I don't remember the buttons up the front so that might not have been a model my parents used.

I DO remember garments falling apart pretty quickly and getting sweat stains, etc. They were a real struggle to fold as well. Must have been awfully uncomfortable.

You can't possibly have the full vision of the experience until you see the backside with the huge butt flap and the 3/4-inch button used to keep it closed.

Yikes. Time for a pray to Eloheim. Thank you Lord, God of the magical garmies, for doubling the cloth material over the holy of holies area in this phote. And, by the way, why are many of your missionaries such dumb mothafothas? Oh well, some things are yet to be revealed. JHC. Amen.

I love how the younger generations are so fascinated with the one-piece phenomenon. It's like hipsters who listen to 80s music for the "cool" ironic synthesizers.

You didn't have to post that link for me; I washed and folded plenty of those and saw my dad walking around the house wearing nothing but. All. The. Time.

In fact, when people mention garments, this is the picture I have in my head. I was surprised to discover that the one-pieces are basically unheard of now and everyone has gone to the two-pieces.

Paul Simon's Graceland album came out in 1986.
Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA. Great album.
The PIXIES, fer cryin' out loud.
Elvis Costello
The Clash
Fleetwood Mac
Blondie
Madness
James
The Stone Roses (STILL on my high-rotation playlist)
David Bowie's Let's Dance album
Talking Heads
Metallica
Anthrax
Sonic Youth
Nirvana's first hit was released in 1989
So was Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine
Love and Rockets
Prince (You might hate him, but he's a musical GENIUS)
Heart
Guns N Roses (I hate 'em, but still a great band and very popular)
Run DMC
AC/DC's Back in Black is an 80s album
REM
NWA
The Sugarcubes
The Pogues
Public Enemy
The Beastie Boys (Seriously? Geniuses!)
Jesus & Mary Chain
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Dinosaur Jr. - first single in 1988
Joy Division
Michael Friggin' Jackson - Seriously, you cannot say he wasn't talented

Anyone who thinks the music from any one decade is crap is not paying attention. There's a whole universe of music that comes out in every decade and I can make an argument for good and bad for every single decade. Just because you may not LIKE some of what I listed above doesn't mean those artists didn't all deliver some amazing music.

So, no, I am not fucking kidding. There's a hell of a lot more incredible music from the 80s than fucking Air Supply, okay? And I didn't even include that much hiphop or metal. Frankly, I think the 80s was groundbreaking for music and was when the sub-genres really started to split out from the main genres of rock, pop, R&B, country, and jazz. We had New Wave coming from the disco era, we had hip hop developing from the early rap of the Sugarhill Gang and Afrikaa Bamabataa, we had big hair metal coming out of the classic and prog rock of the 70s (thank you, KISS). And many of the great bands of the 70s were still churning out terrific albums in the 80s -- some of them are STILL churning out albums. I think the 80s were better for music than the 90s, actually, although that's when we saw a lot of genre-mixing like 311 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers (who may have gotten started in the 80s, I couldn't be bothered to look that up).

Don't mess with me about music, man, that's my THING. ;>D

My dad would wander around the house in his one piecers. I'm like what the hell? I didn't even know his underwear were religious. I just thought he was old fashioned and like the old style of underwear. I always thought the sewing at the nipples was a bit odd. Had no idea they had anything to do with the temple. Just figured it was a trade-mark of the underwear company which I guess it is. Authorized Pattern Beehive clothing.

The first garments were not just one piece but went to the wrists and ankles! You could still get them when I first went to the temple. REAL mos wore the full ones. BTW in getting our endowments the two piece ones allowed for your first time when I got endowed.

If this doesn't scream cult, I don't know what does!!! I don't know if my parents wore the onesies when I was a kid, but I do remember them walking around in their garmies all the time. I remember seeing my mom put her bra on over the garmies. I knew it was part of being Mormon, but I didn't know it was temple-related. I did think it was weird, but of course it seemed normal to my brainwashed mind. Glad I never went through the temple of doom!!

So, so glad that I went through the temple, in the two piece era.

I just can't imagine seeing my beautiful Wife in her early-mid 20s wearing a one piecer, the two piecer set up was bad enough but the lesser of two evils lol.

That said, her 'worldly' undies now that we have ditched the cult are unbeatable. :-)
