I admit I was a MORmON, Mainly because of family ties, legacy, etc. I just had no idea Joseph's Myth was a rapist, who cuckolded his followers ny pretend "marrying" (raping) their wives and teenage daughters.
I dont know how you can be a good person when you sing the praises od a bad man.

Look, the horse is dead, so it's not really feeling anything, so while it looks ugly, no animals were hurt in the making of this thread.

Yes, here we go again...although my voice has given out, I can only sing so many notes...those notes are in Bb Minor Diminished; 1-800-VATICAN.

..."may the voices of compassion shield me from the abuses to come."

"May God have Mercy on my Soul. I stand accused."

with all due respect...

thread seems to ignore that Mos:

- are nearly 100% indoctrinated, don't really consider such thoughts.

Yeah, Mormons adamantly deny (and erase) the fact that JS was a rapist.

...but...most of the MEN who sing praises to JS have been taught in priesthood that, if they are good, they will be pooygamists in heaven. The Prophet and others already have two celestial wives. My TBM bishopric brother expects more wives, after he dies.

Not all Mormons are brainwashed into innocence and non-accountablilty.

They sing praises to a polygamist. Their university is named after a polygamist. Their prophet Nelson is a polygamist.

And...no...these are not good people. Certainly not good, from a woman's perspective.

exminion-

I'm of the opinion that the polygamy doctrine will be effectively dead in another 10 years, except for a very-few diehard /fundys.

Is it taught in any of the manuals currently? I'm betting NO.

It's in the D&C, both 132 and the Manifesto. It can't go away without discrediting the prophets.

They may de-emphasize it, but it isn't going away.

The question was raised in another thread regarding the legality of 'polygamy'. I ignored it then, but I shan't now.

With regard to basic law in the USA, no man can have two marriage licensed wives. That's called bigamy.

But it is now pretty much settled law that a man can have a legal wife and then enter into whatever private 'contracts' he wants to with other human beings, like being sealed in a temple to his legal wife and a celestial wife or two or three.

But the law will only recognize the rights of the marriage license wife. Private contracts among the parties might be given some attention should litigation arise based on the contracts, but how that might work itself out hasn't been tested.

But absolutely, if los mormones wanted to practice celestial sealings, they could.

Yes, they could resurrect polygamy. But then the inflow of converts would do exactly what it did in England and Wales when Orson Pratt revealed polygamy there 180 years ago: dry up completely.

The church is caught on the horns of a dilemma. Embrace polygamy and wither, or renounce it and implicitly admit that JS, BY, JT, WW, and the rest were charlatans.

The only option is to do what they are doing now: refrain from denouncing the doctrine and hope that nobody notices. This is one of the many ways in which the church has painted itself into a corner.

...yeah. Or admit that Warren Jeffs had the correct interpretation of Mormonism.

I would be hesitant to be sure polygamy will be dead in 10 years. There are many that come from the jessops, barlows, Allred families and lots of them still are partial to it even now. And with the secularization of America and the west we have a system of more open lifestyles and ways of living, decriminalizing drugs, decriminalizing crimes.

I'm sure the ACLU and others will defend polygamists and pervs when the time comes.

No, they won't. The ACLU didn't do much for Warren Jeffs, did it?

What you don't understand is that tolerating more people's lifestyles is recognition of the dignity of the individual, as is protecting people from domestic abuse and children from molestation. The trends you describe as nefarious have advanced in lockstep with greater respect for children and LESS tolerance for abusive cult practices.

Ist of all you have to prove that Joseph Smith met the legal definition of rapist by the laws of his day. I doubt that he did.The women apparently were willing and 14 was over the age of consent. It may have been immoral, but that isnt the same as rape 2nd, the person singing his praises would have to believe he was a rapist and very few, if any Mormons accept that. This is silly.

Yeah, kind of funny telling all the exmos here that we were bad people. I didn't think I was bad, but apparently I was.

I was ignorant. Heck, I didn't know til age 38 that Joseph Smith even practiced polygamy. When I became aware of that and other things, I left.

Thats the difference between us ExMos and MORmONs 20yrs into the Google age, they know, they just don't care. Just like they dont care if a White Nationalist rose to power after he grabbed some pnssy and paid off a porn star or two he raw dogged while his 5th kid was nursing on his 3rd mail order trophy wife.

Some are [mis]lead and many are mislead.
People go to church. They sing. Go along.

You are preaching to the choir!
I'm a preacher-minister.
A Reverend, actually.

I'll preach one thing: WE KNOW.
I'll minister this with you: Tell "Them"

You ask one question and get a million and one answer.

(See Roy G Biv's breakdown)

You need your answer, and we have ours, though we tire of repetition.

Have you filed the required Environmental Impact Statement for beating a dead horse into a pink mist?

There are only two answers. Yes and no.

If it's "no" then you have your answer. Anyone that sings "Praise to the Man" on Sunday can't be a good person.

If it's yes, then you have your answer. Anyone that sings "Praise to the Man" on Sunday can still be a kind, charitable, loving person.

Does that answer the question sufficiently that it need not be asked again?

OP doesn't ask because he doesn't know. OP asks because he thinks that we don't know.

Interesting how Nelson can wave his magic wand and the offensive term "Mormon" can cease to exist. Yet, a hymn that praises Jesus Smith can't seem to disappear from a revised hymn book. Hmmm.

My shelf broken when I discovered the founder was a sexual predator who preyed upon a teenager.

But ironically, after seeing so many rapists threads from you I am more sympathetic to those who actually can tolerate adoring a sexual predator. Why?

Because Smith did so many more horrible things. He brainwashed and started a cult of brainwashing. This is why he was able to sexually prey upon people. If only I could get my loved ones to realize that accepting his warning flags of being an abuser is tantamount to adoring a cult leader than maybe I wouldn't be so sympathetic to them and more sympathetic towards you. But that will never happen. Smith could have been a serial rapist like you've claimed and all the good juju he's got as a cult leader would still be more powerful than crying wolf, I mean "Rapist!"
