This is disturbing on so many levels. I worked across the street from where this building is going to be built. I watched construction going on for YEARS from City Creek mall to the Eccles theater to Harmons etc. The traffic will be a nightmare to say the least.

But, hey, follow the money. In the meantime, beg for fast offerings from the flock to give a token amount to fire victims in CA.

Sorry. I looked and couldn't find that someone had posted. I was wrong.

Ugly, as always. Who's nephew is the architect on this monstrosity?

Lots of construction jobs for Mormon family members. Future vacant office space.

With tourism a major source of revenue, you'd think SLC would be more concerned with beautifying their city. Ah, it's too late, now, anyway, since they destroyed Downtown SLC. We don't go there anymore. We go to Gateway sometimes. It's just a mall, but does have some character and charm to it.

Will they tear down the old Zion's Bank building for this?

San Francisco firm. Nothing too good for these guys. Apparently all the business space in City Creek is leased and there is a demand for so much more.

Class A office building?
They are trying to find other ways of raising revenue since tithing has got to be down?

My guess is they are diversify their portfolio for the future and adding to their master plan - Vatican City, Utah.

from the article: City Creek Reserve, a real estate arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Okay, maybe I am naive, but I don't think the run-of-the-mill Christian denominations (Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist...) have "a real estate arm...." especially not one building luxury office buildings!

That's not what a church should be doing. They ought to feed and clothe the poor and hungry, help the sick etc. Building luxury for the wealthy who can afford it is not mentioned in the Bible, eh?

What would Jesus build?

It's quite common for churches to own and invest in real estate and other investments--insurance, stock markets, etc. For instance, the Roman Catholic church, according to an MSNBC report several years ago, makes a profit of more than $30 billion each year off their worldwide real estate holdings. The ELCA makes several million dollars per year off investments in its Mission Investment Fund (and posts yearly financial reports publicly on its website).

However, both of those organizations are much larger than Mormon Co. On a per-member basis, I wouldn't be surprised if God's True Church is the most profitable religious organization in the world--all while its members crow about how they don't pay clergy or musicians and donate so much to charity.

I think it probably is or at least 2nd to Rome. They have made a model of corporate incest par excellence.

Isn't this being built on the only "green" area near that intersection?

I clarify green as an open sidewalk area with some small grass.
