...I have a ton of old 20's-30's-40's-50's Church volumes which contain all the early, now controversial works. When I bailed, I told the SP/BP they could have the entire collection for their new Branch library. They said "HELL NO!" Plus, they were afraid I would pass them out to other members....what does that tell you about their frantic need to hold onto the flock by any means necessary?

SAD...but so predictable.

It is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints version of "Fahrenheit 451."

If Ray Bradbury were still alive, he would be (first) smiling when he learned of this....and then, he would begin including it in his talks at his public appearances.

If you still have them....

Several bookstores in Salt Lake will pay cash for them.

You can sell them online. You might be suprised at the cadh they can bring in.

If you still qualify under the new tax laws...donate them but not to Deseret Industries.

I tossed all of mine. I didn't want those books to go out and corrupt the world. It was lots of books, from several generations. Some were quite rare and valuable too... didn't care. They all went to the recyclers.

CC 2.0, it's actually comical when you think about it. Imagine the comedy sketch that would make!

--People doze off in Sacrament Meeting, wake up, see those books and scream ---Aaahhhhh!!!

--Or the book is coming after them like the Adams Family "Hand."

--The bishopric trying to capture the books with a net while screaming "GET BACK! GET BACK EVERYBODY!"

So much fun to be had!!

Thanks, CC 2.0, you put a smile on my face.

:D

...it would even be better if the SP/BP had to don Hazmat suits when handling the more controversial volumes!

Ha ha. Like Mormon Hazmat suits? Something in white with a green apron and baker's hat for example---just to keep the Adversary at bay?

Thanks for the chuckle! Maybe we should make the parody ourselves! That would be fun!

I'm surprised the didn't accept them so they could destroy the evidence. They missed a good opportunity there.

Also, I'm sure they couldn't possibly allow any materials with the word Mormon into the "House of the Lord." That would be a win for Satan. This is too funny. Russ is like an SNL sketch.

That's what I was thinking as well.

Also, a simple claim could be offered that the books were always checked out to cover up that they were indeed destroyed.

It goes to the heart of how TSCC is willing to erase and rewrite its own history. Or scrub the history that is there.

And that I find truly frightening.

It's lies and more lies to spoon feed the members.

If that isn't duplicity, what is?

Yeah, I have a first edition Mormon Doctrine that I keep on purpose. It's a record of what Mormons used to teach and believe. There's so much lying about Mormon history still happening.

Mormon Clorox for sure. Their way of holding on to the façade of perfection that they were always inclusive and open-minded.

And foolish me, I fell for it when I joined TSCC at twenty-two. Along the years when people would confront me and tell me that the early leaders taught racism, and Joseph Smith was a pedophile and adulterer, I naively defended them saying that they were men of God, and God would not condone such behaviour.

Again, foolish me...

There's probably a university or institute that collects these for critical scholarship. My alma mater, for example, likes to think of itself as a major repository of W.H. Auden material.

Ask around--there's probably some such institution that would love to have these. They could also give you a tax receipt.

Tell LDS, since you find them no longer useful, you are offering them up for sale, to the highest bidder.

They would reply, incredulously, how do you get higher? Are you hiring? How much can we pay you so that you won't sell/ share these volumes with members, and the world-at-large?

Sell or trash-burn!
LDS doesn't even want, or need, their own trash (talk). Talks...

Maybe someone like MormonLeaks is interested? The volumes with the smoking guns could be scanned and made available for people to search online.
