Apparently the survival rate for children (past the infant stage) with bacterial meningitis is quite good - 98% of children who are treated promptly will survive. The treatment? Antibiotics. So apparently, in the year 2012, young Ezekiel Stephan died for want of antibiotics. His parents simply brought him to the hospital too late to help him.
https://www.news-medical.net/health/Meningitis-Prognosis.aspxElsewhere on the above linked website, it states that the incidence of viral meningitis was drastically reduced in children with the introduction of the MMR vaccine, since mumps is a leading cause of viral meningitis. Measles can lead to it as well. The anti-vaxxers, such as the Stephan family, are not just risking diseases such as mumps and measles for their children. They are also risking the potential complications, including viral meningitis.
