Maybe it's about what people will say they believe in, if the price is right?

Why do people who are presented with cold, hard evidence chose not to believe it? There is pretty much always a reason, which the believer will deny or ignore.

As a TBM I believed in most of that stuff and more.

The only question was whether the paranormal forces and/or phenomena involved in the above were good or evil.

And nobody paid me anything to believe--in fact, I paid *them* (my supernatural managers) in time, money and brain cells for the privilege of belonging and believing.

We all got paid in a way. We might pass the interview to keep our spouse happy, or our families. We might even live in a place where status in the LDS helped in the wider community.
