The Seventh Day Adventists may be the fastest growing Christian denomination in the world. They seem to keep growing even though they have essentially ditched founder Ellen White’s writings. Could the LDS do the same with Joseph Smith and regain momentum? Could they do it without abandoning the temples? Keep the broad outlines of their doctrines emphasizing Biblical teachings by finding essential Mormonism in the New Testament? They seem to have gotten baptism for the dead from the Bible even without modern day scripture for example.

You bring up an interesting point here. I suspect that our cult has softened over time and will continue to water down its doctrine until it is more and more mainstream and looses its cult status.

If the mormons could treat Joseph Smith the same way then they would be on the road to being more mainstream...the only problem is that the men at the top of the pyramid would loose their coveted "Prophet, Seer, Revelator" status and that may not be so easy.

Who knows? Most likely things will head that way though it may take another century to get there.

It will continue to be considered a cult if it insists on the one and only true church status and insists on the unique authority of its leaders. That is why some consider the Catholic Church to be a cult.

The reason for that Masonic church-front's ditching of Ellen's voluminous trash is that it has, in its entirety, been proven to be a work of endless plagiarism.

Anyone interested can find the evidence in a fine book called "The White Lie."

Page after page, therein, you can read parallel texts of her copied theft of older works by other divines.

This and other evidence likely led to that phony "science" outfit's dropping her stuff.

A similar scam was practiced by Holy Joe Smith and his handlers.

The Mormon deal was set on foot by Masonic agents in similar fashion.

Joe and his pals proceeded exactly as Ellen White and her pals did.

Proof of JoeCo's literary pilferage:

So TSCC is in the same boat. Their recent machinations seem to indicate that they know it was all a rip-off. I think the biggest difference is that TSCC is ultra conservative whereas SDA is more moderate. That means TSCC is too slow to embrace change. The reactionaries at the top want society to be like it was 200 years ago because spiritual idealism had broad acceptance. But the language has changed. Lots of new spiritual ideas have sprung up. Did the church tap into them to keep its narrative fresh? No, they stuck with the 19th century narrative even after two centuries. Ideas that came from people who also believed in blood atonement, slavery, and extermination of native peoples.

This is because of a codependent relationship between the church and its members. Members enable the stupefying spiritual malfeasance of church leaders. The church in turn provides a fairyland where one never needs to grow up.

So it’s not church doctrine I have a problem with. It’s the debilitating effect it has on its members. Life is too short to go and have your divinity (and intelligence) insulted every Sunday. Now the gulf is too wide. They have awakened to their awful state. They can’t admit the scam. All they can hope for is to die before too many people catch on.

Active Mormons are willing dupes. I suspect a lot of them just are unwilling to admit the emperor has no clothes even when it is obvious. These are not stupid people. They are often just afraid to admit the obvious because of their valued family and church relationships.

The 7DAs have one interesting idea - the Sabbath as Saturday. I have brought this up with other Christians and never received a convincing theological reason why Sunday has taken on that role.

was that Sunday replaced Saturday because Jesus was crucified on Friday and then, at the end of that bad 3-day weekend, rose again on Sunday. (This is reflected in the "Good Friday" tradition in the Catholic church.)

OTOH, a lot of historical evidence points to it being a Mithra/sun-worship thing that was borrowed into Christianity, the same way that the pagan traditions surrounding winter solstice were borrowed with the result that December 25 became Christ's birthday (i.e. the third day after solstice, when the sun begins to rise again after having reached its lowest point on solstice).

It will probably get to that at some point. It's probably still too early. Too many statues. Too many copies of Joe's crazy scriptures still in print. They have to take baby steps.

This decade may be dedicated mainly to eradicating the "Mormon" nickname (unless that's just a Nelson brain fart that will be reversed as soon as he and Wendy no longer sit on the throne).

But before they sideline the memory of Joseph Smith, they need to also sideline the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine & Covenants, the Book of Abraham and the Pearl of Great Price. At present, though, Mormon missionaries are still going everywhere and shoving the Book of Mormon in people's hands and treating it like a magical talisman that makes it possible to channel the Holy Ghost. As long as the Book of Mormon is front and center, Joseph Smith can't be sidelined.

The church could start building their meetinghouses in the shape of a giant toilet. It would be a start to all their doctrinal and spiritual claims. Then they could rename them to shit houses and encourage members to toss their shit away~ BoM, PoGP, Articles of Faith etc.

We are almost there.

Smith is less a less a foundational claim and more of a jane austen character.

The propaganda is now that he loved his wife and the bible and people hated him for it.

However...

becuase he lived a relatively few years ago and the and the inerwebz, the practice of denial if wearing thin.

MORG know that have to go mainstream and the next step, which they have tip-toed before, is to sat that the BOM is just inspired teachings but not historical.

Then they can drop Joe in the baptismal font and let him get watered down.

The RLDS walked this path to stay alive and MORG knows it is the only way forward doctrinal
