Shaylyn Bergeson, nine year old from Salem, Idaho died from a terrible accident. Her family donates body parts for others, very sad.

I have tremendous respect for Shaylyn, and for her family.

Those donations will save, or improve, many lives for many decades.

Gripe me, Flame me if U want, but what about parents letting a child climb with rebar (sticking up?) nearby?

Some dangers are so obvious a blind person could see them...
Shame, that's what I say but not knowing all the facts.

I have no idea what happened in this particular case, but nine-year-olds are at an especially dangerous age. their physical capabilities usually exceed their judgment. Parents don't usually watch them every second of every day as we typically supervise those who are preschool-aged and younger. This little girl could have made it pretty far into the tree before her parents had any idea that was what she was doing.

Again, I don't know the circumstances, but when I look back at my own childhood and some of the things I did when my parents weren't looking, it amazes me that I'm still here.

I know of way too many instances where uber religious communities do not school their children on safe practices, believing Gawd will protect them from all harm and when this becomes generational, horrific tragedies like this occur.
