Don, your writing is always so intense and vivid!

When I was a kid, I used to wish over and over for a sibling. Somebody else to be on my side when I had to continually challenge the grown-ups. A built-in best friend.

Several other kids assured me that being a "lonely only" was best: you didn't have to share stuff or take care of sibling(s) when parents were gone.

Your story reassures me that it might be better not to have siblings.
