Would someone kindly 'splain that to me? Sounds oh sooo Mormon. I guess I missed that lesson in SS or whenever. An obit in the local paper of an uber TBM guy and it mentioned how he taught the values of hard work and "provident living" to his children.

If he was TBM, then translated it means: he was a cheapskate with his family and their basic needs but a perfect full tithe payer.

Yeah. What valkryie said.

In a normal situation it means living below your means so that you can save and strategize how to make your life keep getting better. Planning a future instead of letting it just happen.

For Mormons I think it means living below your means so that you can give more to their church and have more children than you can support or give time to between your callings. Letting Mormonism happen to you.

mormons that give more to their church end up with no means to live.

It's polite-speak for "he was generous with his tithes but a miser when it came to his family."

Glad and thankful my dad was generous with his family in addition to his philanthropic efforts and tithing, but he always did the right thing of putting his family and business first

Only the Mormons could come up with a word to make living in poverty or near poverty sound righteous and desirable.

I think they should teach "Provident Living" by using examples of the living apostles. Let's see some video footage of the spartan lifestyles of those we should be emulating.

Wouldn't that be a revelation to the rank and file Mormons? Those GA second vacation homes might stick in the craw of a few TBMs.

"Oh damn, I have to pay tithing." I've told my father's tithing story after my mother died several times. My mother "made" him pay it.
