As of last week, there is a new option accessible from membership accounts on LDS website.

At the bottom of Church account page, there is a red-boxed area with "Delete Account" in it.

Anyone tried it yet?

I wonder what that does? Maybe the church put it there because IIRC people who have resigned no longer have the ability to edit their accounts.

Perhaps it’s to comply with the recently enacted European General
Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which, among other things,
gives Europeans the right to be “forgotten” and delete all their
data from a computer system.

Deleting account will not delete membership.

Red-boxed reminds me of so many grayed sections of forms that are labeled something like “official use only.” Is this red box marked “apostate use only?” ;)

LOL

I clicked on it and nothing happened. It hasn't been connected to a viable link yet.

That means you're inactive!

The end result would be that you will need to set up a new account to access your membership information.

What if you don’t want to access your membership information?

If you already have an account, then use this option to delete it.

If you haven't set up an account, may I suggest that you don't.

I did it the old fashioned way.... with a letter. I'm out. No doubt.

It should read 'deleat a count', which is probably a reference to Countchocula.

As a person sets up an online account to pay their tithing, that button gives them the option to delete that account.

Too bad there's no button there to remove your name from the church's membership records. If they were smart, they would include an option to take survey after clicking to have your name removed, to see why you left. "...So on a scale of one to ten where one means that Joseph Smith was a fraud and ten meaning that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, what is your position on Joseph Smith?". If they add enough questions like that, people might leave just to have an opportunity to be heard.
