Extremely partisan source. I look forward to the day when proportional representation is introduced. Debate in the USA will have to progress beyond "the other party did it".

Did you check to see if this "extremely partisan source" distorted the news? Because it did not.*

And what is the relevance of that quip to BlackRock's acquisition of Ancestry.com? Or is this the expression of some subconscious fixation on your part?

Sure. Like in Europe, where no one ever says "the other party did it."

My two questions have nothing to do with partisan politics.

I asked about the ownership of two corporate entities, one of whom (Ancestry.com) I believe is owned, or is otherwise a part of, the group of LDS business entities.

My other question was about the Blackstone Group, which I have no knowledge of, but the name is somehow "familiar" to me--although I have no knowledge of WHY it appears "familiar" to me.

It may be familiar because some of its management has ties to President Trump.

Also they bough Vivint, a Utah based company.

Blackstone has connections to everybody, right and left. It manages over $500 billion in assets, which means that virtually every major pension fund has money under its management.

Steven Schwarzman, the CEO of Blackstone, is a Republican but more of the traditional sort than a Trumpian; and he helped Obama broker a budget deal with the GOP in the early 2010s. In February 2017 Trump appointed him chairman of a group of business people who were to advise the president, but the group collapsed over the summer because its members realized they were being used for their prestige rather than their advice.

I think the reasons people know the name Blackstone are because of its enormous size and its presence in virtually everyone's mutual/pension funds.

Or maybe confusing with Blackwater?

Probably. Eric Prince and his big sis Betsy DeVos. What did they change the name to?

It was founded by mormons, but has been owned by various private equity groups for the past 8 years. Between 2009 and 2012 it was a publicly traded company.

I am not aware of any connection between Blackstone Group and mormonism.

The LDS church might have a small stake in one or more of Blackstone's various funds. It would be a passive stake, though, with close to no influence over Blackstone's management or its investment portfolio.

Seems to me that Blackstone bought Busch Gardens and Sea World, too. But I could be wrong.

A few days ago the Blackstone Group was attempting to purchase a railroad valued at 21 B.

All that juicy genetic data must be worth a lot. Medical insurers, law enforcement and researchers will all be queuing up for a slice of pie.

How much of that $4.7B will be used to reimburse LDS genealogy workers for all that free labor?

Ancestry will still do all the adverts, DNA, etc... and be more "lax" on who is real and who is really related to whom. LDS will provide all of the amateur data that LDS inc provides and has digitized. https://www.heraldextra.com/news/local/central/provo/ancestry-com-joins-forces-with-lds-owned-familysearch/article_4ce0e3fc-067a-5546-8f00-a0d0e111033a.html

Does the AncestryDNA division still put Neanderthal and Denisovian results under "other"? I've assumed that they do that due to the company's prior Mormon ownership and continuing ties to Mormonism (being headquartered in Lehi.)
