https://generalassembly.org/This is misleading.
"Jews" are not having a virtual general assembly, the Jewish Federation is.
Jewish Federation is an organization which exists to support a wide spectrum of Jewish and humanitarian causes (philanthropic, educational, etc.).
"Federation" [as we Jews refer to it ;) ] is based in New York, but is composed largely of affiliated local groups throughout the USA. They raise and distribute more than three billion dollars annually from individual Jews, and then distribute that money to whoever, and whichever, causes are laudable and in the most need.
Nevertheless, most Jews--at any given time--do not belong to the Jewish Federation. (There are many Jews who ONCE belonged to Federation, but have since decided to use their tzedakah--"righteous behavior," "justice"--funds for other humanitarian causes of their own, personal, choosing).
Every Jew knows what their own, compelling to them, local causes are (whether these are "Jewish" causes or not, and whether those in need are Jews or are not Jews), and shares their "justice"/"righteousness" funds accordingly.
I do agree that the LDS Church could have a virtual General Assembly too, which would be a lot safer for all concerned.
